Student Days @ HCS

K- 5 Students – all K – 5 students will be attending HCS every day, starting on Thursday, September 10th. On Tuesday, September 8th half of each class will be attending while the other half remains at home. On Wednesday, the other half will come to school and the first group will remain at home. This is to allow teachers the opportunity to work with students in small groups to go over expectations and how we will be operating as a school throughout the school year. Teachers will be contacting all parents in their homerooms to explain the days they attend the week of August 31st.

A typical day at HCS will start with students going directly to their homerooms once they get off the bus or are dropped off (parents will not be entering the building with their child). Once the student have washed their hands and arranged their items, they can hang things on their hook. The school day will look the same for the most part, except students will be eating lunches in their rooms. Half our students will be outside enjoying recess from 11:30 – 11:55 while the other half are eating. From 12:00 – 12:25 they will switch. Our K – 5 students will remain together as a class throughout the day and will not be able to interact with other classes, this includes at noon recess.

6 - 8 Students – all middle school students will be attending HCS every day, starting on Thursday, September 10th. On Tuesday, September 8th half of each class will be attending while the other half remains at home. On Wednesday, the other half will come to school and the first group will remain at home. This is to allow teachers the opportunity to work with students in small groups to go over expectations and how we will be operating as a school throughout the school year. Teachers will be contacting all parents in their homerooms to explain the days they attend the week of August 31st

A typical day at HCS will start with students going directly to their homerooms once they get off the bus or are dropped off (parents will not be entering the building with their child). Once the student have their items arranged and have washed their hands, they can place things in their lockers. The school day will look the same for the most part, except students will be eating lunches in their rooms. Our middle school students will have recess each day from 11:35 – 12:00 and then return to their homerooms to eat from 12:05 – 12:25. Each class will have designated areas to go during their recess time. Our middle school students will remain together as a class throughout the day and will not be able to interact with other classes.

9 – 12 Students – our high school students’ days will look a little different this year for some of our students. We have been instructed that high school classes be limited to 17 students max as they must intermix due to course selections. Our goal is to get as many students as possible in our building every day. With that goal in mind and the various class sizes, we have been able to schedule all our grade 12s to be at school every day. Part of our grade 11s and 10s will be able to attend every day, based on course selections. The half of the 11s and 10s will be attending every other day. Our grade 9s will be attending every other day, at this time. Teachers will be calling each home the week of August 31st to inform parents and students of their potential schedule. High school students will have a similar lunch time to previous years but will be required to eat in their rooms and wear a community face mask whenever they are not eating or physically distanced from others. Our grade 11s and 12s will be allowed to leave school property as per normal and grade 10s may, with a written note from home.

Meet the Teacher - Due to Covid 19 restrictions, we will not be hosting a meet the teacher night, except for our kindergarten classes. The kindergarten teachers will be contacting their families to arrange a time for a parent/guardian and the student to come to the school to meet the teacher and see the building. All homeroom teachers of other grades will be contacting students/parents to inform them of their homeroom class and their first day of school.
