Fruit & Veggie Challenge Week!

As you may be already aware, Burton Elementary School is working towards becoming a Heart Healthy School. To do this, we have to complete 4 challenge weeks. Our first challenge week is the week of Nov 23-27th, so we wanted to take a few minutes to let you know what we would be doing here at school and how you can help us be successful.

Challenge #1 is Eat 5 servings of Fruit and/or Vegetables Every Day.

The activities your child will be participating in while at school are:

--school-wide Fruit/Vegetable Challenge (throughout the week)

--have opportunities to try a variety of fruit (Tuesday and Wednesday)

--presentation by the Oromocto Superstore Dietician (Thursday)

-Whole school Smoothie Day (Friday)

Two ways you can help your child be successful with the Fruit/Veggie Challenge Week are:

--pack lots of fruit and vegetables in your child's lunch box each day so they have lots to eat during snack and lunch-Remember their goal is to eat 5 servings of fruit/veggies throughout the day (they will earn 1 point for the school-wide contest each time they eat a fruit or vegetable for snack or lunch-the class with the highest number of points at the end of the week will earn a special reward)

--encourage your child to fill out the Fruit/Veggie Consumption Journal at home each day next week to track how many days they were able to eat 5 servings (this will come home on Monday)

Your cooperation is very much appreciated! We couldn't do this without your help. Thank you!
