Weekly Memo - Sept. 26-30

Happy Friday, MAS families!  Despite the wet weather, it was another fantastic week here at McAdam Avenue!  We enjoyed our pancake breakfast and are very thankful for everyone who helped out, including Kiwanis and our Home and School Committee!  We learned a lot about Terry Fox during our Terry Fox Run, and our school raised $239 for the Terry Fox Foundation (our goal was $50)!

Items to note for this week:

  1. Our Indigo Adopt-A-School fundraiser started on Sunday, Sept. 11.  This means that September 11th-October 1st all the money raised for the book love program at the Indigo store that we have been partnered with in Oakville, Ontario will be donated to McAdam Avenue to help update the school library. We will get to use the funds raise to shop at a discounted rate to buy books.  Here’s the link to donate and to share with family and friends: https://indigoloveofreadingfoundation.givecloud.co/fundraisers/mcadam-avenue-school-fredericton-new-brunswick
  2. Monday, October 26 – Java Moose forms will go home.  Shop local and support our school at the same time!  Please make sure ALL rows and columns are filled out.  We will NOT be double-checking; we will order based on the final totals on each sheet.
  3. The breakfast program will begin at some point this week!  That means all students will have access to breakfast foods each day.
  4. School supply fees ($47.25) can be paid online at https://anglophonewest.schoolcashonline.com/.  If you would like to work out a payment schedule, please let Roxy or I know.  We would be happy to support you with this.
  5. Wednesday, Sept. 28 – Cross Country at Henry Park at 1:15 for any student who has been attending practices at school (grades 3-5).  Please note you must provide transportation for your child (drop off and pick up).
  6. Thursday, Sept. 29 – Student Voice meeting; Orange Shirt Day & Assembly given that tomorrow is now a holiday.
  7. Friday, Sept. 30 – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – NO SCHOOL
  8. Families have been asking about protocols for Covid-19 this year.  The direction we have been given is that as with any other communicable disease, we ask students/staff to stay home until they have no symptoms.  There is no set timeframe for this.

Looking ahead:

-October is Children’s Vision Month!  As part of our School Improvement Plan, we will be having various visitors to educate us about vision and differences we may see such as glasses, Braille, walking canes, etc.
