Weekly Update - Sept. 12-16

Good afternoon, families, and happy Friday!  We have had a wonderful first week of school and the students and staff are all settling in well!  What an awesome school community!

Items to note for this week:

  1. Our Indigo Adopt-A-School fundraiser is starting Sunday, Sept. 11.  This means that September 11th-October 1st all the money raised for the book love program at the Indigo store that we have been partnered with in Oakville, Ontario will be donated to McAdam Avenue to help update the school library. They will be sending me a link for an online fundraising page on Sunday which I will then share with you that you can then share with family and friends!
  2. The Terry Fox Run forms will be sent home on Monday, Sept. 12.  Donations can also be made online at https://schools.terryfox.ca/7591
  3. Cross Country practices start this week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch recess for students in grade 3-5.  I asked students who wanted to participate and sent information forms home with those students about our Wednesday afternoon meets.  If your child has decided they would like to participate, I will gladly send a form home with them.  Just let me know!  Please note, you would be responsible for taking your child to these meets on the Wednesday afternoons indicated on the form.
  4. School pictures are Wednesday, Sept. 14.
  5. Becca Schofield Day assembly is Thursday, Sept. 15.
  6. Becca Schofield Day is Saturday, Sept. 17.  Each student will get a ‘random act of kindness’ card to take home to do a kind deed and encourage others to do the same!
  7. If you are filling out the parent portal form, please note that there is no place to put your child’s name on this form.  Please write his/her name at the top.
  8. If you would like support with school lunches in the form of a bagged lunch for your child, please let either myself or Roxy know.  Roxanne.yerxa@nbed.nb.ca
  9. The breakfast program that I spoke about at Meet the Teacher has not started yet.  I will let you know when it does.  In the meantime, please have your child eat breakfast at home.  Some students are bringing their food to school to eat which can be disruptive as instructional time begins right away.
  10. School supply fees ($47.25) can be paid online at https://anglophonewest.schoolcashonline.com/.  If you would like to work out a payment schedule, please let Roxy or I know.  We would be happy to support you with this.
  11. We are having many safety issues with our drop-offs and dismissals.  A letter was sent home with the procedures, but I do want to reiterate what this should look like:

DROP OFF: Enter the driveway near the tennis court in single file.

Pull ahead to the 3rd student drop-off No Parking Sign where the duty teacher will meet you. Please make this quick as others are waiting .It is a kiss and drop only. If you need to get out with your child, please park in the tennis courts or on the road.

DO NOT PASS AT ANY TIME DURING DROP OFF.WAIT IN THE LINE, PLEASE. We will put out our ‘green men’ signs to remind you that you are not permitted to pass by others, even if you parked and your child is dropped off already.

PICK UP: Again, please only use the inside lane for picking up students.  Please DO NOT use the outside passing lane as a pick up lane.

Enter the driveway near the tennis court in single file.

Pull ahead in the driveway as far as possible. If you need to leave in a hurry, we ask that you pull past the school walkway or park on the road.

If you are getting out of your vehicle to pick up your child, please park past the school entrance or on the street or tennis court. This will help keep the traffic moving as cars cannot pull out around as per safety procedures.

Looking ahead:

  1. Home and School/PSSC meeting Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 6:30pm at the school.
  2. Pancake breakfast and the start of the milk program is Thursday, Sept. 22.
  3. The Terry Fox Run is Friday, Sept. 23.
  4. Our wonderful Home and School Committee is facilitating a Java Moose coffee fundraiser!  Shop local and support our school at the same time!  Information and order forms will be sent home on Monday, Sept. 26 and this fundraiser will run until October 11.
  5. Friday, Sept. 30 is Orange Shirt Day.  We will be having an assembly that day.

As always, thank you so much for your continued support.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
