Good Evening Families of Nashwaaksis Middle School,
This
is to inform you of a positive COVID-19 case in your school. We are working
with Public Health officials to identify any students and school personnel who
may have been in contact with the case.
We
understand you may feel anxious over the coming days. Public Health officials will contact you
if your child has been in close contact with the confirmed case and will tell
you if your child needs to self-isolate. Please note that this contact may
initially come through your school principal who will be sending the message on
behalf of Public Health. If you are not contacted by Public Health officials
(through a call or through the principal), your child can continue with regular
activities.
Tomorrow, Thursday, May 13th, will be an
operational school closure for staff and students to allow for contact tracing
and cleaning of the school. There will be no instruction, at school or online.
The school will reopen on Friday, May 14th for
all those who have not been identified by Public Health as close
contacts. If there is a need to keep the school closed longer, we will
transition to online learning from home. You will be advised if this is
the case, otherwise please return to school on Friday, May 14th.
It
is natural to want to know if your child may have been exposed to the virus.
Public Health officials will inform those who are at risk of the next steps,
but to protect the privacy of students and school personnel, other details
including names, will not be released.
Children
and young people look to the adults in their lives to guide them on how to
react to worrying and stressful events. Parents are encouraged to talk to their
children about any anxieties and remind them to treat one another with kindness
and respect, in person and on social media.
If your child is showing any
symptoms of COVID-19, you should:
- Register
them online for a test by clicking “Get tested” on the GNB coronavirus website (www.gnb.ca/coronavirus),
OR
- Contact
Tele-Care 811.
The 811 operators will evaluate
your child before sending them for testing. If you have questions that are
public health related, please send them to COVID-19NB@gnb.ca.
Thank
you for helping keep your school, community, and province safe.
Sincerely,
David
McTimoney
Superintendent
