Hello MAS Families. We have had a great week at MAS. This
coming week is ‘Safe Schools Week’. This is our opportunity to teach your child
what to do in emergency situations, so that in the event of an emergency at
school we are prepared. Your child will participate in read alouds about
safety, discussions, and emergency practices throughout the week, such as fire
drills, lock down, site evacuation, and bus evacuation. Please throughout the
week discuss with your child about these exercises and learn what we do and
share their importance.
Few Reminders:
October 30th- NO school for students.
Please note the change shared by our Superintendent to our school calendar.
There will be no school for students on Friday, October 30th. This
is now a PL day for staff.
School Pictures- Please return your order forms by
October 26th. If ordering online you do not need to return anything.
School STAR Assembly- We will be holding our first
STAR assembly this week to kick off safe schools week and to recognize some of
our STAR students of the month.
Career Week- Nov 2-6. We are looking for parents that
would be interested in sharing what they do. This year we will do it over TEAMS
and have you video into the classroom. Please reach out if you are interested
in sharing with your child’s class.
Halloween- We will celebrate Halloween activities on
Thursday, October 29th. Students are welcome to dress in black and
orange. (PLEASE- no costumes) We will do some in class but whole school fun
Halloween activities over the PA system. Please note communication shared with
us for guidance with GNB Covid-19 recommendation and Policy 711 about bringing
snacks into the classroom to share with friends-
- Prepackaged store-bought treats only (no prepackaged
homemade goods, fruit trays, etc.)
- Homemade treats are not
permitted to come from students homes, prepackaged treats are permitted
- Do not permit students to take from a bowl of treats
unless the treats are arranged so that children won’t come in contact
with other treats when they grab theirs.
- Doing up individual treat bags is a good option.
- Consider offering non-food treats such as stickers,
small toys, colourful pencils, notebooks or erasers, colouring books,
activity passes, or books. Non-food treats are a healthier option than
candy at any time of year.
- Wash hands before distributing pre-packaged treats
individually to students
Please note teachers will further communicate any
individual classroom plans for the day.
Pumpkin Carving FUN- Staff will be creating and
carving out their best Jack-o-lanterns. These will be on display starting
Tuesday, October 27th. We will be doing a wellness fundraiser and
selling ballots for students to vote on their favorite pumpkin for the chance
to win that pumpkin and take it home. Ballots will be 1 for $0.50 or 3 for
$1.00. Funds raised will go toward Feed the Lions and school wellness. Pumpkins
will go home on Thursday October 29th to the winning students.
Home and School & PSSC Meeting- There will be a
meeting on Thursday, October 22 at 6pm. All are welcome to join. The meeting
will take place in the gymnasium. Please wear a mask and sanitize hands when
entering the school.
