FREDERICTON (GNB) – Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Dominic Cardy will continue consultations with educators and students across New Brunswick on a provincial tour this winter.

Cardy announced the tour during the three-day Provincial Education Summit in Fredericton.

“We are committed to building a world-class education system and to accomplish this, we need to hear from the educators working in classrooms and schools every day,” said Cardy. “I am very pleased with the excellent dialogue carried out through the education summit, but I am also eager to continue to work with our experts – teachers, principals, early childhood educators – and with students themselves, to improve education in New Brunswick.”

The summit was intended to inspire, energize and empower learners and educators to reimagine New Brunswick’s education system. On Oct. 16 and 17, renowned speakers and researchers shared their expertise on topics such as using experiential, flexible or community-based learning to better support learners. The presentations sought to inspire dialogue for the open discussions that took place on the final day, Oct. 18.

A Summit Summary Report will be made available on the summit website in the coming months.

Participants were selected from several stakeholder groups including students, parents, district education council members, First Nations, community leaders and business stakeholders. A significant portion of participants were educators from all districts and representatives from teacher associations.

“Thank you to all of the participants and experts who joined discussions this week and provided valuable insight into how we can move forward and modernize our education system,” said Cardy. “Over the past year, I have had many formal and informal discussions about the future of education with educators across the province. I look forward to hearing more of your ideas on how we help our students succeed.”
