Update to GNMES Operational Plan beginning Tuesday, October 13th.

Upon arriving at school, students will no longer be met by staff to sanitize their hands before entering. Students will continue directly to their classrooms where they will wash or sanitize their hands.
Students who drop by the cafeteria in the morning to pick up breakfast will sanitize their hands before receiving any food items.
The full, updated plan will be available no later than Wednesday, October 14th. We appreciate your support in these ever-changing times.

October 14th, 2020 - Updated Operational Plan for Parents and Public

Changes made to the Operational Plan for GNMES are indicated by date changes within the document. The updated information from the EECD is also available.

Tuesday, October 13th - The following email was sent to ASD-W families this morning:

Dear ASD-W Families,

If your child has traveled to the Moncton/South-East or Restigouche Campbellton Health Regions over the long weekend, please read the following.

As the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has risen in certain areas of our province, Public Health and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) have updated their safety measures and guidelines for schools.

Moncton and Campbellton Health Regions have returned to the Orange phase under the province’s COVID-19 recovery plan because of confirmed COVID-19 cases. At this time, ASD-W remains at the Yellow Phase and our safety measures have not changed, however Public Health has provided safety guidance for people in our region who have traveled to the Moncton (Zone 1) or Campbellton (Zone 5) regions, or who live in those areas and work in ASD-W, as follows:

  • All individuals who have traveled to the Moncton or Campbellton regions since Friday, October 9th, must wear a mask inside our schools and classrooms, outside the school at noon/recess, and while on the bus for a period of 14 days from the day they returned to our region.
    • Students in kindergarten through Grade 8 will now be required to wear a mask throughout the day, both indoors and outdoors, except when they are working quietly at their desk, engaged in physical activity, and eating/drinking.
    • Staff and students in grades 9 to 12 will be required to wear masks throughout the day, both indoors and outdoors, unless they are eating/drinking or engaged in physical activity.
    • Students of all ages and grades are required to wear masks at all times on the school bus, even if they are sitting alone or with a family member.

  • If a student or staff member lives in a house where others traveled to the Moncton or Campbellton regions but they, themselves, did not travel, then they do not need to follow these requirements. These new measures apply only to the individuals who have traveled.

Public Health hasstated there should be no non-essential travel to these areas and anyone who travels to these areas while they are in the Orange Phase will need to follow the elevated mask use, as outlined above, for 14 days upon their return.

Please see the https://nbhc.ca/maps-health-zones-and-nbhc-communities for the communities found in Zone 1 (Moncton Region) and Zone 5 (Campbellton Region). We ask all families  to continue reminding students about the importance of hand washing/sanitizing; practicing  good cough/sneeze etiquette; staying home and calling 811 if they are ill;  physical distancing; wearing a clean face mask;  and monitoring for symptoms.

Thank you for your understanding as we work together to follow the safety guidelines provided tous by Public Health and EECD.

David McTimoney

Superintendent
