McAdam Avenue School received a major cash donation Jan. 18 in support of the school library, thanks to the generosity of the surrounding community and the fundraising efforts of Mike Richard, a retired detective with the Fredericton Police Force.

Richard presented the school with a cheque for $6,000 and a memorial award in memory of former student Jackie Clarke, who died tragically in 1995 at the age of eight. Richard began raising money in 2018 through a GoFundMe page set up in memory of Jackie.

"The funds are to be used for the school library because Jackie had a passion for books," Principal Cynthia Burnett explained.

Also, an annual memorial award of $100 will be presented each year to a deserving Grade 5 student.
