1st Day of School InfoGood morning Creeker families!
As our staff wrap up our final official day of preparation for the students’
return to school on Tuesday, September 6th, I thought I would share
some important information on all things related to the first day/week of
school for Grade 1 to 5. Kindergarten families have received separate
instructions for their staggered start-up. Keep
in mind that while mask-wearing is no longer required, families and students
are welcome to wear these if they so choose. I also encourage
all new families (and perhaps returning ones as well), to check out the Garden
Creek School Tour video which can be found on the front page of our school
website on the left-hand side.
- Families can expect an email
(or phone call if needed) from their child’s new Garden Creek teacher at
2:30pm later today, Friday September 2nd. I
encourage families to review this email at length and respond to their
child’s new teacher with information requested (Arrival and dismissal
plans – bussing, pick-up, drop-off, etc.)
- Times to arrive – Families are welcome to bring their
children by drop-off or send them on the bus. Arrival times are between 7:40am and 8:10am.
Our staff will be wearing vests while on the playground at this time. If
dropping off and escorting your child to the playground, families may either
park in the staff parking lot or on Golf Club Road. Please drive slowly
near our crosswalks at this time. If dropping off and not escorting your
child to the playground, families are to pull up in vehicle while in a
single-file on the ‘left side of the cement barricade’ near the front of
the school. PLEASE REMAIN PATIENT AND AVOID PASSING VEHICLES IN LINE AT
THIS TIME. Students on bicycles, scooters, or skateboards are to walk with
their equipment once on our school grounds to avoid high speeds.
- Process for teachers – Around
8:00am, all teachers will begin standing in a line with some signage on
the soccer field. At that time, students will be given the
signal to begin lining up with their new teacher. Additional staff will be
present to help direct students/families if they require assistance. After
attendance is taken at 8:10, teachers will begin making their way into the
building. At this time, we ask that parents/guardians remain outside of
the school to avoid additional congestion in the school.
- Dismissal time for
Gr. 1-2 classes will be at 1:50 on Tuesday, September 6th.
Dismissal time for Gr. 3-5 classes will be at 3:05. On Wednesday,
September 7th, all Gr. 1-5 classes will be dismissed at
12:05pm.
If picking your child up at dismissal, park in the staff parking lot or on
Golf Club Road and wait for your child near the side doors of the school
(near soccer field) as they exit the school with their teacher.
- Students will be going home on Tuesday, September 6th
with a packet of documents to be
completed, signed, and returned to school. An accompanying
checklist will be provided to help guide families with this.
- No hot lunch program yet – We are aiming to begin our 1st round of Hot
Lunch in the month of October. Stay tuned for more
information. In the meantime, families will be responsible for sending a
full lunch with snacks with their children. We also ask that a water
bottle be sent to remain at school as well as an additional water bottle
for travel to and from school if need be.
- Student fee payments can begin to be submitted via SchoolCash beginning on
Tuesday, September 6th. Families new to
SchoolCash can register via this link.http://https://anglophonewest.schoolcashonline.com/.
School fees for K-2 are $55.
School fees for Gr. 3-5 are $60 due to an extra
student agenda fee.
- The 2022-2023 Family Handbook also contains plenty of
information which can be found on our school website.
If you have questions or concerns and require clarification, please contact
the school at 453-5409 and our office staff will be happy to assist.
We are so excited to have our Creekers back in the building! Have a
wonderful weekend.

Acting Principal Welcome Back, 2022-2023 Creekers! 2022-Family Handbook-Rev. August 2022.pdf
My name is Alex Yaychuk and I will once again be your
Acting Principal for the 2022-2023 School year. Having experienced a wonderful
year of learning, growth, and collaboration last year, I am looking forward to
continuing to work with staff, students, and families in the Garden Creek
community. I encourage all to check out the Family Handbook link above for information on our School.
Your Teachers, Educational
Assistants, Administrative Assistants, Custodians, and all support staff are
committed to working together to foster an ideal learning environment that
provides structure and stability to your children’s daily lives. Following an
eventful school year (2021-2022), I have seen firsthand the level of dedication
and awareness that the staff at GC has for their students’ social emotional
wellbeing. When a child feels safe, their ability to take-in, interpret, and
utilize information increases greatly!
We have a number of important
events and dates which will be communicated to you throughout the school year
either by weekly emails or by occasional voicemails. If you are not receiving
these messages, please inform our front office (453-5409). Students will be
bringing home Data Collection Forms along with other pertinent info to be
signed and returned. Our incredible administrative assistants are happy to
assist all families if they have questions on how to complete these.
Lastly, I would like to add that our upcoming ‘Meet the
Teacher Night’ will be conducted in-person at Garden Creek School on Wednesday,
September 21st. This evening will give you a sneak peek into your
child’s new classroom and give you a chance to learn more about the various
learning opportunities that will be taking place. We will begin with a
fundraising BBQ at followed by an opportunity to meet your child’s
teacher in-person. Proceeds from this fundraiser will be
going directly to our Lilypad Legacy Project. I encourage you to check out our
school website for more information, including a video, on this great endeavor.
Stay tuned for more information on specific times as we near the 21st.
Garden
Creek is a school that prides itself on providing meaningful experiences that
both inspire and challenge students to discover and appreciate the many joys of
learning. We are excited to showcase this during the course of the 2022-2023
school year!

Acting Principal Happy Summer to all! Dear Garden Creek Families,
As we wrap-up our 2021-2022 academic school year, I want to express my gratitude to all families for their
ongoing support during such a unique school year. Truly, this
was a year like no other in the Education system. Through it all, Creeker
families have remained positive, flexible, understanding, and demonstrated
trust in our staff. Here are a few final items to be aware of:
- Pre-Kindergarten families can expect communication from
the school in the coming days regarding the staggered Kindergarten start-up dates and times for
September. Stay tuned.
- Families interested in providing learning opportunities
for their children over the summer are encouraged
to check out the virtual Learning links that administration put together.
Families can access these here. GC
Learning Links - K-5.pdf
- An email from our school district was sent to families
on Wednesday evening. This includes an array of summer camps in the Fredericton area.
All information can be accessed on the ASD-W website http://web1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/asd-w/Pages/default.aspx
- That being said, we encourage all Creekers to get
outside and remain active over the summer months as much as possible. Regardless of the efforts families make to encourage
academics over the summer, their child’s academic levels of
proficiency will be assessed in the fall and our teachers will do
everything they can to challenge them accordingly.
- If you have not done so yet, be sure to check out the final installment of the Garden Creek News Team
on the left side of this website.
I would like to end our final Creeker Memo with this: Having had the
opportunity to work closely with our staff this year, I can tell you that the professionals in this building care deeply about your
children’s success! A student's success is measured beyond just academics and
we here at the Creek believe firmly in the work we have done, and will continue
to do, in supporting your child's progress. I am looking
forward to working with these amazingly dedicated and talented professionals
yet again in 2022-2023. I can assure you that your children are in great hands.
On behalf of the entire Creeker staff, have a safe and happy summer!

Thank you and stay safe! Remaining Positive through Distance LearningApologies in advance for the length of this message but I do ask that you take
the time to read its entirety.
Welcome to the first official day of learning of the 2022 year. Our teachers
have reached out to you with information on what to expect for learning
experiences for your children. While paper-based learning options are available
for all classroom tasks, some Grade 3-5 families have the option of choosing
either virtual or learning packets as a preferred format. We ask that these
families confirm with their child’s teacher prior to coming to the school for
pick-up(if needed).
Our 1st pick-up times for work packets at the school started last
night and will continue this week during the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm. If these
hours do not align well with your schedules, we encourage you to reach out to
your child’s teacher or the front office (453-5409).
Although distance learning is not the preferred method of schooling, the
Garden Creek staff are remaining positive and choosing to see this scenario as
an opportunity to promote independent work and student ownership. We encourage families to try and keep
a positive and resilient mindset as well!
As with previous distance learning scenarios, it is important that families
and teachers keep an open line of communication in order to make this format
work. Our teachers will be continuing with daily check-in opportunities. If
faced with what feels like an overwhelming expectation of school work, we ask that families keep an
open-mind, remain solution-driven, and make every effort to reach out to their
child’s teacher for clarification/support.
With an uncertain end-date to distance learning, it is suggested that
families do their best to maintain a level of engagement between their child and
the school. Garden Creek believes that the mental health and well-being of your
child depends greatly on their ability to connect with the school while
maintaining their identity as a Creeker. By
establishing daily school routines, parents/guardians can make all of the
difference in making the best out of distance learning. Of
course, not all family circumstances are the same so be sure to ask your
teacher for advice in finding attainable and manageable alternatives.
Finally, keep in mind that even with your best efforts, student progress
will still have its hurdles. Rest assured that upon your child’s return to Garden Creek, their teacher
will re-evaluate their current levels of understanding and teach them where
they are in their learning.
Thank you once again for your patience, understanding, and flexibility!

Spooktacular’ on November 15th(originally called
‘Halloween at the Creek’). Yes, we hope you have not tucked those Halloween
costumes too far away!

too scary, does not cover the face with a decorative mask (face paint is Ok),
and that they do not bring any accessories resembling weapons.
- Students will be
receiving a treat bag at the end of the day which is only to be opened after
dismissal time.
- If interested, families are encouraged to post kid pictures to

Creeker Memo #8**This morning, we did

are working with the school to resolve this matter.
- Today, families will be

Creeker Memo - Week # 7As we head into week #7, I would
like to remind all that our ‘Halloween at the Creek’ treat drive is ongoing.
Thank you to all families who have already donated. It has been remarkable to
see such a great response. That being said, we are encouraging more donations up until Tuesday,
October 26th! Here are a few other things to be aware of this
week:
- The annual fall bottle drive for ‘Creekers Helping Creekers’ is
this coming Saturday (October 23rd) between 8:30am and
12:00pm. All families are encouraged to bring their
recycled cans/bottles/juice boxes to the school parking lot that morning.
Proceeds go towards supporting GC families in need or in crisis.
- This coming week is ‘School Safety week’. Our students will
be involved in several different types of safety drills including: School
bus evacuation drills (during school hours), a lockdown drill, and a fire
drill. Teachers are encouraged to discuss fire prevention and aspects of
emotional safety as well.
- We
are asking children to keep their personal toys at home. While some personal items (stuffies for
example) can be a source of comfort for children, other types of toys can
often result in conflict in the classroom, the hallways, and the
playground. If you are not sure about certain items, please check with
your child’s teacher. We are also reminding students that trading cards
are acceptable but should not be seen inside the school or on the school
bus.
- Please
ensure that your child has 2 water bottles at school. 1 to be left at the school and the other to
travel with them back home. Lately we have had a number of children ask
the office for plastic cups due to having forgotten their bottle at home.
- Similarly, please ensure that your child has 2 masks at school.
1 to be left at the school and the other for traveling on the bus and/or
exiting the building at dismissal time.
- Picture re-take day is set for October 28th. Parents
are asked to submit the Harvey’s Picture form indicating the need
for a re-take by tomorrow, October 19th.
- Our ‘Trick or Eat’ food drive in partnership with the Greener
Village Food Bank begins next Monday, October 25th.
Here is a flyer detailing the initiative. Big thanks to Mr. Tobin for
organizing this! Trick
or Eat Food Challege (2021 - 2022).pdf
- Finally, a friendly reminder to have your child dressed for the
weather during these cold mornings. Thank you!

important one for our students, our staff, and our community. We plan on
hosting a whole-school virtual assembly where we will discuss the
importance of the day, share stories, and highlight some important
values associated with the day.
- While it is our full
intent to keep the contents of our discussion very much age-appropriate,
there is a chance that curiosities may be triggered, and further
dialogue is needed. We encourage families to think about how an
appropriate conversation may continue at home.
- Friday, October
1st
- Creeker Colors Day!!!!!
- All staff and
students are encouraged to wear Green and Yellow to celebrate our first
School Spirit Theme Day!

- Outdoor Intramurals have
started once again with Anglophone School District West’s approval. At
this time, we have Flag Football (Gr. 3-5) and Cross Country (K-5)
resuming outdoors
- Masks:
- Friendly reminder that
our District policies and protocols for mask-use is different than the
Provincial mask-mandate announcement made last week. Conversations about
why teachers may not be wearing their mask indoors when more than 2
meters away have been occurring.
- We continue to remind
students to take mask-breaks while physically distancing from others in
classrooms, gymnasium, music room, etc.
Creeker Memo #3Thank you to families for making
efforts to have their children exit their vehicles during drop-off from the
‘passenger-side’. Here are a few upcoming reminders for you to be aware of for
the coming week.
- The most recent Memo from the Department of Early Education
and Childhood Development can be found on the Anglophone
School District West website https://secure1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-W/Lists/District%20News/DisplayForm.aspx?ID=573&RootFolder=%2Fsites%2FASD%2DW%2FLists%2FDistrict%20News&Source=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure1%2Enbed%2Enb%2Eca%2Fsites%2FASD%2DW%2FPages%2Fdefault%2Easpx
- Students will be
taking part in Physical
Education outside as much as possible and will be
required to wear masks if indoor classes are being taught
- At this time, our outdoor recess (early
morning drop-off, morning recess, and lunch recess) procedures will not
change. If 2 classes are in the gym at the same time, the
curtain will be used to separate both classes.
- Our indoor clubs are to stop for
the time being.
- Our outdoor intramurals are
going to take a pause for the time being. We are hoping
to get more clarification on whether or not activities such as
cross-country and flag football are permitted outdoors.
- Field trips can take place
as long as the numbers of students on the bus are small enough to keep
kids sitting with classmates from their ‘bubble class’ and a row of 1 or
2 empty seats separates the class bubbles.
- Here is an excerpt from the memo
regarding bus transportation
“To reduce the risk of transmission on the bus,
we are asking parents who are able to do so, to please drive their child to
school and help reduce the number of students on the bus to encourage greater
physical distancing”
- Our Lock Down Drill is
taking place this Tuesday morning. All students will be receiving
additional direction on expectations to complete this drill safely.
Teachers have been discussing this and practicing this with their classes!
Much like our successful Fire Drill last week, we hope to minimize anxious
feelings through practice and discussions!
- Start-up packages are
to be submitted back to your child’s teacher and School Fees are
to be completed via School Cash online https://anglophonewest.schoolcashonline.com/
. Any families with financial constraints are encouraged to reach out
to the school to discuss available supports.
- If you have a child who
requires a medical/safety
plan due to the following, a Policy 704 form needs to
completed and submitted to our school. Please notify the office if you
require one.
- Our 1st Hot lunch option
will be communicated out very soon. School Cash online will be the
preferred method to register for this.
- Our Parent School Support
Committee is finalized and will be meeting frequently
throughout the school year to consult on school improvements. Thank you to
parents/guardians who expressed interest.
Have a great week everyone! Meet the Teacher Night
Thank you to all families who took part in our Meet the Teacher night! Our teaching staff was very pleased with the turnout and look forward to continuing to build connections with their students' families.
Creeker Memo #2I would like to thank you all
for your continued patience with our after-school bussing. As our district
transportation continue to refine their own routines and routes, I anticipate
the wait/drop-off times to continue to improve. Here are a few upcoming reminders
for you to be aware of.
- School Tour Video
– For many families, it has been quite some time since you have been
inside our building! With that in mind, we have created a virtual school
tour which can be accessed here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1N6Oix1GhpA.
This video will be available on our school website as well.
- Grade 3-5 students will be
visited by members of the ESTEY
Art program Monday afternoon. Information will be shared
for any families interested in registering their child for this
after-school program. This is set to begin at the end of the month once
per week.
- Due to some excessive rain on
Friday, our Fire
Drill was postponed and will take place this morning.
Prior to the alarm sound, all students will receive important reminders
about how to travel safely inside and outside of the building and most
importantly, to remain calm when this important procedure is needed. For
some, this experience can generate some anxieties. We hope to minimize
these feelings through practice and discussions!
- This Wednesday, September 15th,
at 6:30pm our teaching staff will be available for a virtual ‘Meet the Teacher’
welcome. Stay tuned for the invitation coming from your child’s teacher.
- Start-up packages
that were sent home last week with your child are to be completed and
submitted back to your child’s teacher. If you have not done so yet,
please make this a priority this week as this information is very important
for our record system.
- If you have a child who
requires a medical/safety
plan due to the following, a Policy 704 form will be sent
home to be completed or updated. Please look for it in your child's
backpack, sign and return by Wednesday September 15.
- carries an Epi-Pen
- takes medication on an
on-going basis at school (for example: inhalers, Ritalin)
- needs immediate care
due to a potential life threatening situation or condition
- ongoing observations
for a health condition
- School Cash online
is available for families to pay for student fees https://anglophonewest.schoolcashonline.com/
. If payment by cash or cheque is required, please note that the identical
cost from school cash will be needed.
- We are hoping to start with Pizza as our first Hot lunch
option of the school year starting in early October.
School Cash online will be the preferred method to register for this. More
info to come soon!
- Garden
Creek School will take part in the annual Terry Fox Run again this Friday, September 17th. In
order to be allowed to wear a Hat
or Pyjamas for the day, students are asked to donate $2 to
their child’s teacher. All classes will participate in our school event
starting at 1:00 p.m.
- A memo will be going home
about Cross Country
Running opportunities for children at the Gr. 3-5 levels.
A school wide event has been set for October 6th. Stay tuned
for more information.
September Newsletter and Home & School WelcomeIt has been a great first couple of days back at school. We are seeing
smiles, hearing laughter, and already noticing many of our students settling
into their new routines. Although we have experienced some challenges with
bussing, we are so thankful for the patience and understanding our families
have shown.
The first Newsletter of the school year can be found below as well as a
welcome from our Home & School Committee. Please have a read and let the
office know if you require any further clarification.

Getting Ready for a Great Startup!I hope you are all enjoying these final summer days as we approach the first
week of school! Our teachers, custodians, and admin assistants continue to work
hard to prepare the school and classrooms for a wonderful year of learning for
your children. We are
delighted to host our newest Kindergarten Creekers to our school community on
September 7th and 8th between 9:00am and 11:00am. Our
returning students in Gr. 1-5 will also be beginning their first day of school
on September 7th.
This Friday between
2:00pm and 2:30pm, families will be receiving an email from their child’s new
teacher welcoming them to the 2021-2022 school year. In that
communication, information will be given, questions will be asked, and
important reminders will be shared. Among these reminders will be to ensure that your child has indoor
sneakers, 2 water bottles (1 stays at school and the other for their bookbag),
a packed lunch with snack, 1 mask to wear when entering/exiting our school, and
at least one extra mask to leave at school. Extra masks will be
available in our office for emergencies. I encourage families to have the
following information ready to be shared with their child’s teacher:
For Grade 1-5 students coming to school on September 7th, there
will be staff members
waiting just outside the entrance doors between 7:40am and 8:10am to welcome
your children inside the school and guide them to their assigned classroom.
Parents/guardians will be asked to remain outside of the school as part of our
mandated COVID protocols from government officials. Dismissal for our Gr. 1 and 2 students
will be at 1:50. Students being picked up will exit the school
with their teacher and bussing students will begin their routes home or to
after-school daycare. Dismissal
for our Gr. 3-5 students will be at 3:05.
In the coming days, a
newly revised family handbook will be made available on our school website.
This document will contain school hours, recess plans, safety protocols,
important screening information, and much more. Stay tuned for this important
document!
Finally, our ‘Meet
the Teacher Night’ is scheduled for September 15th at 6:30pm.
Due to COVID restrictions, this will be conducted virtually. You will be
receiving more information from your child’s teacher as we approach that night.
The first day of school is an important one for all children to feel safe,
cared for, and a sense of belonging. Our staff is so excited to make this
year’s first day of school a great one!

Alex Yaychuk
Acting Principal Welcome Back!Hello amazing ‘Creeker Families’!
I would like to begin by introducing myself. My name is Alex Yaychuk and I will be your Acting Principal for the 2021-2022 School year. I am so excited to be a member of this incredible GCES team and can not wait to get to know our students and families.
I hope you have all enjoyed the summer months and that your children (and you!) are recharged and excited for another wonderful school year at GCES. In the coming days, our Teachers, Educational Assistants, Administrative Assistants, Custodians, and all support staff will be working diligently to ensure that we hit the ground running during the week of September 7th in order to offer your children the best learning experience possible.
Following a school year (2020-2021) like no other, there will surely be questions about what this year will bring. As our dedicated team works tirelessly to answer these questions, I can assure you that our staff will be committed to ensuring that your child’s safety, both emotional and physical, is kept as our top priority.
We have a number of important events and dates which will be communicated to you throughout the school year either by email or by occasional voicemail including our upcoming ‘Meet the Teacher’ night. Stay tuned!
Lastly, I would like to add that upon entering the Garden Creek school last Spring, I could instantly feel an amazing sense of community, positivity, joy, and passion for serving our children. I am so thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the fantastic reputation that GCES has.
On behalf of the Garden Creek Elementary School staff, I welcome you all to the 2021-2022 school year!

next school year, along with Mme. Robichaud as Vice-Principal. I I have
