Toonies for Terry 2018.jpg

Gibson-Neill Memorial is pleased to be hosting its annual Terry Fox Walk on Monday, September 24, 2018.

Students are encouraged to donate a “Toonie for Terry” and all monies raised through the event will be forwarded to The Terry Fox Foundation to further the cause of cancer research.

This year marks the 38th Anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. We are proud to be associated with the Terry Fox Foundation and believe that our involvement will launch a successful, positive, and meaningful school year. The Terry Fox Foundation is recognized as one of the most fiscally responsible charities in Canada. The Foundation ensures that for every dollar raised, $0.84 goes directly to cancer research – just like Terry wanted.

In 1980, one man set out to do the impossible; run across Canada on one leg to raise money for cancer research. Thirty-eight years later, over $680 million has been raised in his name and we at GNMES are proud to be keeping Terry’s dream alive.

For more information on Terry Fox or the Foundation you can visit www.terryfox.org.

Thank you in advance for your support.

"Kid Stress & Anxiety Workshop: How Parents Can Help"
 Parent Information Session

Facilitator: Erika Nason, M.A., L.Psych

When: Tuesday, September 25th, 6:30-7:30pm

Where: Gibson-Neill Memorial Elementary School

Stress is a natural response to help us navigate temporarily difficult situations. But what happens when it is chronic and holds our kids back from having fun, going to school or engaging in new opportunities? Furthermore, going back to school and/or community tragedies can heighten a child's stress response.

Parents/guardians will learn mre about the impact of stress and how to help your child feel less overwhelmed and more empowered to cope and move forward. Format will be a brief presentation and opportunity for questions.

If you are interested, please RSVP by Monday, September 24th, to nasonjwa@gmail.com

Help write a brighter story for New Brunswick. All it takes is 2 hours a week, for 10 weeks.

Elementary Literacy Inc. is a charitable organization that manages the delivery of two volunteer reading achievement programs for struggling readers in grade two.

The programs bring together community volunteers, schools and parents for ensuring children are reading at grade level by the end of the school year. Children who are not reading at grade level by the end of grade 2 experience significant difficult in school and often fall further and further behind with each year of schooling. Reading is the foundation that cannot be compromised.
