Delay - High School Full-time Return to School

April 10, 2021

Dear ASD-S High School Families and Students,

It was announced on March 19 that all high school students would be returning to full-time in-person learning on April 12, 2021. As the COVID-19 pandemic is ever evolving, we are required to adjust to new information accordingly. As a result, out of an abundance of caution, the province announced today that full-time in-person learning for all high schools in the province will be delayed. In consideration of presumptive cases of COVID-19 variants identified in the province, this delay will allow for more physical distancing in high schools and minimize the number of possible contacts should there be an outbreak in a school.

The government’s Cabinet and the all-party cabinet committee on COVID-19 will revisit this decision based on the advice of Public Health during the week of April 26.

The provincial “Return to School” plan is a living document that changes to reflect new information and best practices, as advised by Public Health. The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) will continue to collaborate with Public Health and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

When EECD first announced the “Return to School” plan last spring, we knew that this would be a school year like no other. Over the past year, our students and their families have been flexible and understanding, and we thank you for your patience and ongoing cooperation this year.

Zoё Watson,

Superintendent
