ASD-S Celebrates Internet Safety Week, February 8th-12th

The week of February 8th-12th, ASD-S will celebrate Internet Safety Week. Tuesday, February 9th is known as “Safer Internet Day.” (http://www.saferinternetday.org/web/guest/home). The theme this year is Play your Part for a Better Internet.
Students in grade 3 & 4 are being introduced to the Zoe and Molly Online safety kit; an exciting new educational tool to help teachers and parents teach their children how to stay safe online.  Information and presentations are being shared across other grade levels to educate our students and promote safer behaviour online, both in and out of school.
The Internet has changed the way we communicate. With this change comes a new set of precautions of which students need to be aware. This includes how to remain safe online and an awareness of the risks involved in sharing photos, videos, or personal information whether it’s via a computer, a game console, a tablet, or a cell phone.

We encourage you to take some time to discuss with your child the information they received. By having these discussions at home, you will help reinforce important safety strategies learned at school and ensure your child is better prepared to properly deal with difficult situations she/he may encounter.
