TRAFFIC CHANGE ALERT: Please see below for a traffic flow decision from District Office.
Please note that starting, Monday, November 1, 2021, we will be changing the traffic pattern for drop-off and pick-up of students at the school. Currently families are asked to exit by continuing straight past the school, past Dr. A. T. Leatherbarrow School, and onto Main Street. Starting next Monday, we ask that families instead use the traffic loop to the side of the school to return back in front of Hampton Elementary School, along the driveway back up to Main Street. As always, please exercise caution in this area and stop for pedestrians, as students and staff may be crossing here and children are PLAYING. DO NOT pull into a parking space and then back up into oncoming traffic. For concerns, please contact the District Office 658-5300. The speed limit remains 20km/hr – which is SLLLOOOWWW so please follow accordingly.
Today’s Operational Day: The announcement district sent this morning about today being an “Operational Day” came as soon as our Superintendent received the information from EECD (Department of Education and Early Childhood). There was uncertainty at the provincial level whether all CUPE groups were going on strike as there had only been confirmation from the bus drivers. As was shared on October 27th in a letter from Minister Cardy to families, if only the bus drivers were on strike, school would have remained open. With custodians and EAs also on strike, schools were closed. District shared the message this morning through their Bus Planner platform so if you did not receive it, it is because you have not signed up for notifications. During a meeting with school administrators this morning, we suggested sending future messaging through School Messenger to reach a larger audience. Please find the instructions for Bus Planner attached.
Next week: There will be further communication about plans for Monday from EECD over the weekend as the situation continues to develop. A reminder in the event of home learning, K-2 students will have paper and pencil tasks and other activities provided by the classroom teacher through email and grade 3-5 students will have a mix of virtual “Teams” and paper-based learning. All classes are set up on Microsoft Teams and students/families received login information.
Pizza Orders: Today’s order is postponed and added to the end of the order.
Pavement Painting: Thank you so much to volunteers Kate Campbell, Nicole Richard & Cynthia Perry for helping to paint the pavement stencils this week. I can’t wait for the kids to enjoy them! We still have a couple
Career Week is recognized this week at HES. On Friday, Nov. 5th students are encouraged to dress up like their future dream career!
