Sussex Elementary celebrated a special guest Marc Garneau, our first Canadian Astronaut as he visited our school on Wednesday, April 15th. He began his morning by helping to officially kick off our “launch” of the fundraising efforts for our  Home and School’s proposed “Discovery Park” playground. The opening was attended by Home and School parents and children, along with students who had won a poster/writing contest with the theme of “A View from My Spaceship”. The opening was complete with rocket launches with a countdown from Mr. Garneau, as well as several donations from our community partners ending off with a high five for all the winners! Mr. Garneau then spoke to the entire school in an assembly and the students were completely engaged as he shared his experiences in space. The students had some great questions for him and the Home and School presented him with a token of appreciation with photos and drawings of the winning entries.
