This is a message from Mrs. Blanchard, Principal at Hampton Elementary School with your weekly edition of the H.E.S. Hawk Squawk. Highlights for this week include: Playground update, Safer Internet Day, Staffing updates, Raz-kids and MANY MANY opportunities available in the community!
 
Due to the cold temperatures and the skating rinks on our playgrounds, students have been staying inside. Unfortunately the District does not cover the maintenance of the playing grounds. If any families have access to extra sand, salt and would like to volunteer their time over the weekend – please email sarah.blanchard@nbed.nb.ca we would LOVE to be able to send the students back outside without worrying about someone getting hurt.
 
SAFER INTERNET DAY: ASD-S will observe Internet Safety Week February 4-8, 2019, and Tuesday Feb 5th is “Safer Internet Day.” http://www.saferinternetday.org The Technology Mentors have been busy preparing Internet Safety Lessons for teachers to use in the school during this week, and the link  for parents is here: http://web1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-S/Pages/Pages%20needing%20reformatting/Internet-Safety-Information-for-Parents.aspx Another great resource can be found here: www.legal-info-legale.nb.ca
 
Staffing updates: We welcome Danielle Burkett Pani, an education student. Ms. Burkett is completing her four month internship with Mrs. Salgado’s class. Mrs. Reay who previously taught Grade 5 Intensive French is now teaching Grade 3 French Immersion while Mme. Fougere-Leblanc is on leave. Ms. Thorne is teaching the compacted curriculum for Grade 5 English. We also wish good luck to Ms. Driscoll who has completed her time in Grade 4 & 5 Phys. Ed and welcome Ms. Cailiegh Marks to this position.
 
Raz-Kids: Our school invests in the subscription of Raz Kids for all of our classrooms. This is a great way for students to read books independently and also assess their understanding with quizzes. We have recently unlocked French Books for those students in French Immersion classes. Here are the teacher login names:

Program Selection Forms (for K and Grade 5 students): The deadline to return forms is Friday, Feb. 15th. Parents of current grade 5 Early Immersion students will not receive anything as the expectation is for children to continue in French Immersion.
 
Mad Science is returning to H.E.S. School: HES Registration Deadline: Feb 3 Cost: $80 Wednesdays: Feb 6 – Mar 20 Time: 2:40-3:40
