Celebrate News From Island View School

The Green Team - many children in grade 2/3/4 compost 3 days every week throughout the school.  These students are organized by Mrs. Ruigrok, Mrs. Brown and Ms. Genge. Students empty classroom and staffroom compost bins, crush and compost pizza boxes and also collect and empty the classroom paper recycling bags.
 
Peer Helpers - Peer Helpers, organized by Mrs. Lofstrom, our Guidance Counsellor - work on the playground during recess and lunch break to help students with problems.  These wonderful grade 4 and 5 students keep busy helping our little ones!
 
IVS sent 29 Christmas Shoeboxes this year to Operation Shoebox.
 
The grade 1's went to Rocmaura for the second time this year to perform a Christmas concert in the main hall and visit with seniors who have a hard time getting out of bed.
 
Grade 3 students painted canvasses and then wrapped them in homemade wrapping paper for residents in a nursing home.
 
 A Grade 2 class baked cookies which were donated to Romero House.
 
A Grade 4 class made "Blessing Bags".  They brainstormed a list of items that they felt people who are less fortunate might need. Example: toothbrushes, bottled water, granola bars etc. They made 34 bags and donated them to the Assumption Church- lower west.
 
A Grade 3 class  collected non-perishable food items to donate to the food bank, made Christmas cards for Carleton Kirk Lodge residents, sang Christmas carols to other classes, and on the last day before Christmas holidays, they cleaned their classroom and left our custodian  a coffee with a card telling her to "have a break on us"
 
 A Grade 4 class baked cookies to share with the school to raise money for Harbour Lights.  They donated money to Harbour Lights and the extra cookies were donated to Romero House.
