Grade 6  Which travels faster: a Formula 1 racing car or the ISS?

The fastest Formula 1 cars reach speeds of around 360 km/h whereas the Space Station orbits Earth at 28,000 km/h! At that speed, the Space Station circles the globe 16 times per day, which means that astronauts aboard the ISS can see sunrises every 90 minutes. It also means that the Station covers a distance equivalent to the Moon and back every day!

Grade 7  What was one of Astronaut David Saint-Jacques' job before becoming an astronaut?

Before becoming an astronaut, David Saint-Jacques worked as a family physician, an astrophysicist and an engineer. He has a bachelor of engineering in engineering physics from École polytechnique de Montréal, Canada, a Ph.D. in astrophysics from Cambridge University, UK, and a medical degree from Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada.

Grade 8   What is the usual duration of an astronauts mission aboard the ISS?

Astronauts and cosmonauts usually spend about 6 months aboard the ISS during a mission. However, in 2016, NASA astronaut Scott Kelly and Roscosmos cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko lived on the ISS for a whole year to learn more about the long-term effects of living in space on the human body. Astronaut David Saint Jacques spent 204 days aboard the ISS. He’ll be telling us all about his time abord the ISS and many other interesting aspects of his life and career when we meet with him virtually later on this morning.
