Approval of Agenda
The agenda was adopted as presented.

Approval of Minutes
No previous minutes were presented.

Election of chair and secretary
After a brief discussion of the duties and responsibilities of committee members, information on which can be found on the government web page, it was agreed to postpone the election of a chairperson until the next meeting when hopefully everyone will be present. It was agreed that the duties of secretary would rotate monthly among committee members.

Meeting dates
It was agreed that the committee would meet on the first Wednesday of each month and when that was not possible to meet on the second Wednesday. Regularly scheduled meetings for the year will be: November 6, December 4, January 8, February 5, March 12, April 9, May 7 and June 4.

Additions to committee
It was agreed to ask Tammy Oliver, who sat on this committee last year, to return as a community member.

Symposium
A combined DEC/PSSC symposium will be held Thursday November 14th at the Hampton Senior Resource Centre. The symposium begins at 7pm. All members are urged to attend.

NBCEA conference
The one day NBCEA fall conference will be offered for educators and parents on Tuesday November 12th from 8:30am until 4pm at the University of New Brunswick Fredericton campus at a cost of $75. Any committee members interested in attending should contact Bob.

PSSC budget
The committee budget for this year has not yet been set by DEC. This information should be available for the November meeting. In the past the committee has sponsored the home/school connection (talk mail) and four extra phone lines as well as refreshments for parent/teacher sessions. The annual cost for the extra phone lines is approximately $250 per line.

Educational review of schools
This method of review was piloted last year by the Department of Education and involves the use of both an internal review committee comprised of the principal, a student, a parent and two teachers and an external team comprised of supervisors from other districts. KV is one of the schools being reviewed this year. It is hoped that the internal committee will complete their review by December. The results of the internal and external reviews will be compared and a report prepared with suggestions for improvements which will be returned to the school to be incorporated into the School Improvement Plan. It is the intention of the Department of Education that these educational reviews be undertaken every three years. Shara volunteered to be the student representative and Brian the parent representative on the internal review committee. It is estimated that three or four meetings will be required to complete the internal review.

Use of volunteers
Last year parents were invited to volunteer in a variety of aspects of school life. While the use of volunteers worked well in the library the utilization of volunteers in others areas was not implemented by the school. Bob agreed to take this issue back to the staff for additional input into which areas of school life volunteers can best be ultilized and how to successfully accomplish that objective.

Parking
It was observed that significant parking congestion exists around the front of the school during evening events. Concern was expressed that this congestion could be a safety issue. The committee was informed that parking restrictions exist only during school hours.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.
