Current Kindergarten Families

Hello current kindergarten families,

Please see the attached letter from Superintendent Derek O'Brien about Kindergarten Transition Day. Please note that our day is May 17th. On this day, all kindergarten students will stay home from school so that next year's kindergarten class can come to school. Please note that grade 1 students in Mrs. Landry's k/1 class will come to school that day. Please contact the school if you have any questions. Thanks!

Pre-Kindergarten

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine from Leatherbarrow Primary School with an important message for parents and guardians of students coming to kindergarten in the fall.

To help your children further prepare for entry into kindergarten, we have planned a Kindergarten Transition Day on Friday, May 17th. On this day, all current kindergarten students will stay home from school so that your children can experience a condensed kindergarten day where they will participate in some fun activities, tour the school, play on the playground (weather permitting) and take a ride around School Street on the bus. As we have almost 80 students registered for kindergarten, we need to have a morning session and an afternoon session.

Children with last names from A-K are asked to come to our morning session from 9:00-11:30am

Children with last names L-Z are asked to come to our afternoon session from 11:45-2:15pm

*Please feed your children before they come to their session.

Unlike the Orientation Day when you stayed in the classroom with your child, you will drop your child off in a kindergarten class and leave them to independently participate with the teacher and other children. You may wish to come to the gym for approximately 45 minutes to hear a general overview of the school and ask any questions you may have about kindergarten. Members of Talk with Me and the school district’s Child and Youth Team will also be in the gym to tell you about what services they can provide to students and their families.

Please RSVP your attendance to this session at 832-6022. We look forward to seeing you and your child on the 17th!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

Thank you for coming to our Student Led conferences yesterday. It was nice to see so many people learning together!  Thank you, as well, for supporting our Scholastic Book Fair.

Our final hot lunch order form for the year is due this week. If you are ordering online, you have until Sunday to place your order. Paper orders are due on Friday. Kindergarten families, you may notice there is no option to order on May 17th. This is because May 17th is our Kindergarten Transition Day where all our current kindergarten students stay home so that next year’s kindergarten class can attend.

Last week, Home and School sent order forms home for a chance to win 2 weekend passes for either Boxcar or Area 506. Order forms and cash are due April 26th.

That’s it for today. As always, please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.
Report cards will be sent home this Thursday. I have finished reading all report cards and am extremely proud of how hard our students have been working and how much they have learned! I want to thank the teachers for completing such thorough and informative reports. I also want to thank you for everything you have done to support your children’s success!
If your child is receiving a 1 or a 2 on their report card, your child’s teacher has already contacted you, or will be calling you before Thursday to discuss their report. It is very important that you know what your child knows, what they can do, and what else they need to do to receive a 3 (appropriate) in a curriculum area. Very often, a 1 or 2 does not reflect the amount of growth and improvement your child has made or how hard they are working and requires a conversation with the teacher.
On Monday, April 15th, from 8:30-10:30am, and from 4:00-7:00pm, we are holding our student led conferences. Student led conferences are designed for parents/guardians and students to come to school together so that students can show you what they have been learning this term and demonstrate their knowledge and skills. You must make an appointment for you and your child to attend student led conferences. If you haven’t already, please go to the April newsletter on our website and click to make an appointment. Please remember, that there will be as many as 4 other students and their parents/guardians in the room at the same time as you. In order to allow everyone to focus on the learning, please do everything possible not to bring younger siblings with you.
The Scholastic Bookfair will be arriving this week and will be open for purchases this Friday and during Student Led conferences.
Finally, our Home and School have a very exciting fundraiser that they are launching this week. They are selling tickets on a chance to win weekend passes to either the Boxcar Country Festival, or Area 506 Festival. Information and an order form will be coming home with your child today!
That’s it for today. As always, please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Take care!

Good morning everyone,

Happy solar eclipse day! Just a reminder that students are being dismissed early today. Buses will begin loading at 11:45am. If you are picking up your child, please be here for 12:00pm.

We had asked the District for glasses for the children and we were fortunate to receive some on Friday afternoon. If your child needs a pair of glasses to wear during the eclipse, there should be a pair in their book bag.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

I hope that you enjoyed a very Happy Easter with your families! I am attaching April’s newsletter and calendar to this email. Please take a look at the things that are happening this month.

Last Thursday, the District sent all families a memo from Acting Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health, with important information about Measles. If you missed it, please take some time to read it. We have not had any cases of measles at the school, but we have had 1 confirmed case of chicken pox. Please also continue to check your child’s head occasionally, as we have had a confirmed case of lice today.

This Thursday, our Home and School Committee is meeting at the school at 5:30pm.

Next Monday, April 8th, all schools are having an early dismissal because of the solar eclipse. Our students will be dismissed at 11:45am.

That’s it for today. As always, please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Take care!
