Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail. Our grade 1 and grade 2 students will be attending a ceremony this afternoon reminding them of the importance of using their WITS (Walk away, Ignore, Talk it out, Seek help) at home and at school. Kindergarten students will learn about using their WITS in the next couple of weeks. It’s always a good idea to check in with your child to see about how they are using their WITS at school.

Today, students are bringing home forms to register for the Fall MAD Science after school program. If you are interested in MAD Science, please register directly with them.

Home and School is meeting night at 6:00pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

This Saturday, September 21, is Becca Schofield Day. Before her death, Riverview teenager, Becca Schofield, encouraged everyone around the world to perform acts of kindness. On Saturday, children and adults across N.B. are being asked to perform at least one random act of kindness, recognizing Becca’s request to the world. We are challenging our DATL families this Saturday, to perform Random Acts of Kindness in the community. This can be for a family member, neighbour, or even a stranger. If you’re comfortable, share your acts with the hashtag #BeccaToldMeTo. On Thursday, your child will come home with a sheet that you can record your acts of kindness. Return the sheet on Monday and we will be sure to share some of them on the morning announcements.

That’s it for today! Thanks for listening!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling with your Tuesday talk mail. We have had a very good start up to our school year. Thanks so much for all you have done to support us!

For the month of September, we are concentrating on the “Be Safe” component of our code of conduct. One way that we practice is being safe is by having fire evacuation drills. We will have our first fire drill this Thursday morning, weather permitting.

I am attaching our September newsletter and calendar to this email. Please make sure that you read it so you will see what is happening in the next month.

That’s it for today! Thanks for listening! Have a wonderful day!September Calendar 2019 (1).pdf September Newsletter 2019.pdf

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary school with your first Tuesday Talk mail of the school year! I am hoping that you had a wonderful summer and that you and your children are looking forward to a brand new, fun filled year!

We are still having our Meet the Teacher this Thursday evening, however, because of the cyclone forecast, we are cancelling the outdoor corn boil and postponing the official opening of the playground. Please drop in between 5:30-6:15pm to see your child’s new class, meet your child’s new teacher, and see old and new friends. You may drop in anytime during this time as teachers will not be giving a formal presentation regarding curricular outcomes, etc. as we are inviting parents and guardians to an evening session on October 10th, dedicated to curriculum and expectations. This Thursday evening is a perfect time to:

-bring a full change of clothes for your child and your child’s indoor shoes (Phys.Ed classes begin the first week of school so sneakers will be needed. If they have not yet learned to tie laces, Velcro would be appreciated!)

-bring proof of immunization, if we do not have them or you have updated them

-provide any medical information about your child that we will need to keep them safe

-fill out alternate transportation requests for your child. You need to fill out a new alternate conveyance request every school year. As per District policy, students are only allowed to travel to their home address and 1 other alternate address if the request for alternate transportation has been approved. If you wish your child to go to another address, other than their home address the first week of school, you will need to fill out an alternate conveyance form on Thursday night. Teachers will have them in the classrooms, and you can find them on the ASD-S website.

-pay your student fee-you can pay your student school supplies fee online, but if you prefer to pay it in person, you can pay it on Thursday evening in the lobby.

At 6:15pm, any parents interested in joining our Parent School Support Committee, (PSSC), are invited to the gym.

That’s it for now! We look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening!

Tomorrow, weather permitting, we are having our annual outdoor Fun Day from 12:15-1:45pm. You are welcome to come and join us.
This Friday is the last day of school. It is a full day of school so students will be released at the regular time. Students will receive their report cards on Friday.
For our grade 2 and grade 1 French Immersion families, I hope that you have other children so that you can continue to be part of our Leatherbarrow Family. If you don’t, and you are moving on to HES, I thank you for everything you have done for us, and wish you the best in your new school!
For those who will be returning next year, please put Thursday, August 29th on your calendar. This will be our back to school/meet the teacher corn boil. We hope to also officially open our playground on that evening!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with your Tuesday talk mail.
Art from the Heart is this Thursday!!! We are very excited! Please click the address below to see a sneak peek of what you can expect to see!

Please remember to send in a canned good this week that can be used to prop up your child’s art. All canned goods will be given to the food bank to help to feed families over the summer. You must have a ticket to have something from the BBQ. Tickets for the BBQ will be sent home tomorrow. Sadly, our playground will not be ready to open by Thursday, but you will get a good look at the work that is happening when you are on the field for the BBQ and opening ceremony.
Swimming also starts on Thursday! We walk to swimming, rain or shine, so please make sure that children are dressed appropriately for the walk. Please ensure that they have their bathing suit and towel.
There is a mistake on the June calendar that was sent home.  Sorry about that. I thought you had paid for hot lunch until next week, but Mrs. Hebert assures me you only paid until this Friday, so this will be the last week for hot lunch and milk. Next week, we will make up the hot lunch days that were lost because of weather. We will have pizza on Tuesday to make up the January storm day, and pizza on Thursday to make up the February pizza day lost because of the storm. We will have subs on Wednesday to make up the Feb. sub storm day and subs on Friday to make up the April flood day. We have a list in the office as to who missed these days. Only those students who paid for these items and missed them because of weather will receive hot lunch, so please remember to send lunches and a drink.
Our Home and School, online auction starts next Monday, June 10, and runs until June 16th. All proceeds are going toward our inclusive playground, so remember to bid high, unless of course, you are bidding against me!
Also, next Monday, from 6 -7:30 p.m. (weather permitting) there will be a children's obstacle course on our playground field.  This is a free event sponsored by the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge in which the town of Hampton is taking part.  Anyone with a postal code beginning with E5N is encouraged to come and give it a try! If a rain date is necessary, it will be posted on the Hampton, NB Facebook page.
Finally, we just received word that the last day of school, Friday, June 21, is a full day for students.
That’s it for today! Thanks for listening! Enjoy the Art from the Heart video and the sunshine!

Hi everyone,
It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with your Tuesday talk mail.
Home and School is meeting tonight at 5:30pm.
May is Food Allergy Awareness month. We have students at our school with life threatening food allergies, so we thank you so much for respecting what foods can, and what foods cannot, be sent to school. If you ever have any questions as to whether a food is safe for your child’s classroom, please check with your child’s teacher. In recognition of Food Allergy Awareness month and The Sweet Caroline Foundation, everyone is encouraged to wear purple tomorrow.
We have workers outside diligently working on our inclusive playground improvements.  If we can keep this sunshine, they might be able to work outside all week! Our hope is to have our playground open for Art from the Heart, but like any construction build, we may experience delays and it may not be open on schedule. We will keep our fingers crossed.
Friday is Transition Day! Our current kindergarten students stay home so that we can welcome our next year’s kindergarten class. Grade 2 students will also be going up to Hampton Elementary for a tour. Our grade 1 French Immersion students are going to the Irving Nature Park on Friday, so I have made arrangements for them to go up to Hampton Elementary School on Thursday morning for a tour.
A reminder that next Thursday, June 6th, is Art from the Heart. Please remember to send in your BBQ order forms by this Friday. You need to have a ticket to redeem food at the BBQ.
Finally, our Volunteer Tea is scheduled for Thursday, June 13 at 12:00pm. If you have volunteered this year and the school, we would love to see you there! Please RSVP at the office so we will know how many are coming.
That’s it for today! Thanks for listening! Enjoy the sunshine!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with your Tuesday talk mail.
Jump Rope for Heart is happening during Phys.Ed this week. Be sure to ask your child all about it!
Believe it or not, Art from the Heart, the most special night of our whole year, is coming soon! We are having this year’s Art from the Heart on Thursday, June 6th from 5:00-6:45pm. Please be sure to put that date on your calendar now because you will not want to miss it! We are sending a letter home tomorrow with information about AFTH that includes the pre-order forms for both the BBQ and your child’s artwork. BBQ food items must be ordered by next Thursday, May 30th, so that we know how many items we need to have.
Finally, a reminder that next Friday, May 31, is Kindergarten Transition Day. Our current kindergarten children will stay home next Friday so that our next year’s kindergarten students can visit. If you have a child in K this year, please do not send them to school next Friday.

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.
Thank you to everyone who came out to the James Mullinger show on Thursday night! It was a fun night and we really appreciate your support!
Our current playground is now closed and workers are taking out our mulch and some of our equipment. In the next few weeks, our new ground cover and 6 pieces of accessible equipment will be added. While the playground is closed, children will be playing in the woods, in the field, going for an organized walk or they will be inside in Lego club, or another lunch time club.
The Code Mobile is visiting our school on Wednesday and on Friday to work with every child on coding. We are really looking forward to their visit.
Back by popular demand, our Home and School will be, once again, holding their online auction from June 10-16th. There are many fabulous items to bid on so stayed tuned for more information about the auction as we get closer to the date. If you have something to donate to the auction, please contact the school or email Michelle McCaffrey at mgiroua@hotmail.com.
Finally, we have had 2 pairs of prescription glasses found outside. If they are yours, you can pick them up in the office.
That’s it for today! Thanks for listening and have a wonderful day!
