I want to thank you so much for sending your child to school warmly dressed and with a change of clothing. We really appreciate your support!
Hot lunch forms came home yesterday and are due on Thursday.
Tomorrow is crazy hair, silly hat day! Students can come to school with their wackiest and wildest hairstyles, or they can pick a fun hat to wear. All students will parade through the school to show their crazy hair and silly hats! Please do not send your child to school in a mask or costume. I’m really hoping that the weather will be dry and warm tomorrow night so those who wish to go trick or treating, will be comfortable!

Just a reminder that there is no school for students next Friday as all staff will be participating in professional learning.

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with your Tuesday talk mail.
The weather has certainly changed and it has been very cold outside, especially in the mornings. Please ensure that your child is properly dressed for the weather and comes to school with a hat, mittens, warm coat and proper outdoor footwear. If it is wet outside, please also send rain pants. We believe it is important for our children to play and learn outside, and we are committed to getting the students outside at least 3 times a day, even if it is wet or cold, so please send extra socks, mittens, underwear, pants and shirts so students can change out of wet clothing and be comfortable to learn inside the classroom. Snow will be here soon (maybe even tonight) so you may want to dig out old, or shop for new, snowsuits or snow pants as these will definitely be needed on the playground.
Many of you have asked about hot lunch. For the month of November, we will offer whole wheat cheese pizza and carrot sticks on Wednesdays. Our PSSC and our Home and School are continuing to work on finding healthy hot lunch options, and we hope to offer other hot lunch options in the coming months.
The 8th annual Runway Run at the Saint John Airport is this Saturday, October 27.  There are 2 events:  a 5 km run and a Little Monster Dash Kids Fun run of 1 km. The kids' run begins at 12:15 and the 5 km run begins at 12:30. Runners for the kids’ race can register that day, but adults must sign up through raceroster.com and search for YSJ Halloween 5k. You are invited to wear a Halloween costume for this unique running opportunity! Mrs. Brenton will be there representing Leatherbarrow and hopes to see some of you there!
That’s it for today! Thanks for listening!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with your Tuesday talk mail.
We continue to focus on the Being Safe component of our code of conduct, and today, all students participated in the Dinobus safety program.
On Friday morning, we will practice our fire evacuation drill and we will practice going to our first off site location, Hampton Elementary School.
If we ever experience a real emergency where students have to be evacuated from our building because of fire, etc. we will first try to go to Hampton Elementary School. If Hampton Elementary School, is not a safe location for us, we will walk farther away and proceed to the rink. If a threat or emergency is between our school and either HES or the rink, we will take the students around the back of our school and proceed through the trails to the Lighthouse Centre.
We are looking forward to seeing all parents Thursday evening, at our Look What Your Child Can Do night. On this night, you will go to your child’s classroom and your child’s teacher will show you a sample of work your child has done so far, and explain the curricular expectations and literacy and numeracy standards for the first report card and end of the year. This evening is for adults only please.
Mad Science applications are coming home today. It is a first come, first serve registration process so if you are interested in having your child attend Mad Science, please register directly with them soon.
Hampton Minor Basketball Association begins practices next week.  If you would like to register your child for basketball, you can register on line and find more information at http://hmba.pointstreaksites.com/view/hmba.
Looking ahead: Our first terrific Tuesday movie of the year will be on Tuesday, October 16 from 2:00-3:30pm. We will be sending home permission forms soon.

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with your Tuesday talk mail.
Thank you to all families who completed random acts of kindness on Saturday. It is so lovely to see all the hundreds of ways you demonstrated kindness throughout our community.
Last week, we successfully practiced our first fire drill of the year with all students and staff evacuating the building in under 60 seconds! This week, we will begin talking about how to stay safe inside the building in a lockdown situation. I explain the need for a lockdown by saying we would need to stay inside our classrooms and stay quiet if a deer were to get inside of the school. We will practice a school lockdown next week. In an effort to promote safety every day, all of our school doors will be locked during the day. If you come to the school, please knock and be patient until Mrs. Hebert lets you in.
Friday is picture day! Harveys studios will be here taking student photos. Also, on Friday, we are having a library parent volunteer information session at 9:15am in the library. This meeting will last approximately an hour.
And, finally, next Tuesday, September 25th, the District is holding an orientation session for any interested PSSC members. The session is at Hampton Middle School at 6:00pm. Please contact the school if you are interested in attending.
That’s it for today! Thanks for listening!

Hello everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your last Tuesday talk mail of the school year!
A video contest for kindergarten to Grade 11 students was launched today.
The contest is to encourage students to create a video promoting their respective regions while reminding New Brunswickers that Getting away is closer than you think. It is a joint initiative between the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Students from kindergarten to Grade 11 can shoot a 30-second to two-minute tourism video and submit it to the website. They have until July 25 to submit their video. Contest rules and guidelines are also available online.
Tomorrow is Fun Day. Outside activities are planned for the students from 12:15-1:45pm. All parents are welcome to attend and join in the fun.
Friday is a half day for students. Buses will begin departing at 11:00am.
Finally, I want to thank you for such a wonderful year. It has truly been a privilege to work with your children every day. To families and students who are moving on to HES, we wish you all the best! We will truly miss you and hope that your memories of us, will always be as positive as our memories will be of you!
For those of you returning in the fall, we look forward to another successful year!
Thanks for everything and enjoy your summer!
