Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with a Tuesday talk mail.

I am attaching December’s newsletter and calendar so you can see many of the things happening during the busy month of December! Skating schedules, concert schedules, and information on our food drive, and how to buy Seadogs tickets to support our choir are just a few of the things you can read about in the newsletter.

Report cards will be going home this Thursday. We are so proud of our students and how much they have grown academically, physically, socially and emotionally this first term. Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, December 8th from 4:00-7:00pm, and Friday, December 9th from 8:30-10:30am.

The link to schedule your conference is here and in the December newsletter.

There is no school for students this Friday, December 2, as staff will be involved in School Improvement Planning.

Lifetouch has rescheduled photo retakes for next Tuesday, December 6th.

That’s it for today. Please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with a Tuesday talk mail.

For those of you who ordered school clothing, it has arrived! If the clothing is a gift/surprise, please email your child’s teacher or contact the office by Thursday so that we do not send it home with your child. We can keep it here at the school until you are able to pick it up. Parent/teacher might be a convenient time. If we haven’t heard from you by this Thursday, we will send the clothing home on Friday.

Lifetouch has promised that school photo proofs will arrive at the school this week. I promise that as soon as we get them, we will send them home. If you are not happy with the proofs and wish to have your child’s photo redone, retakes will be on Monday, November 28th. I think there is a place on the envelope to indicate if you would like to have photos redone. It is always a good idea to also call the office or send a note with your child on retake day just to confirm.

Last year, because of Covid restrictions, we held our Christmas concerts outside on our playground. Feedback from parents/guardians was so positive that we are going to do a similar format again this year. We have scheduled our Christmas concerts for Monday, Dec. 19th and Wednesday, Dec. 21st so that we do not interfere with HES concerts which are on Tuesday, Dec. 20th. All kindergarten and grade 2 students will perform on Monday, and all grade 1 students will perform on Wednesday. A complete schedule of all concert times will be in next week’s December newsletter and in each teacher’s weekly newsletter. Each class will buddy with one other class and sing outside on our playground. Families will then join their child for a Nature Walk on the trail and come inside the classroom for hot chocolate and conversation.

That’s it for today. Please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful day!

Pre K Talk Mail

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine from Leatherbarrow Primary School calling to tell you about a couple of important events coming up in the new year for parents and guardians of children who will be entering kindergarten in September, 2023.

On Tuesday, January 24th at 6:30 pm, we will be hosting our Kickoff to Kindergarten session for all parents/guardians of next Fall’s kindergarten students. This event gives a brief overview of the important skills required for kindergarten success, and how the results of EYE-DA can be used to inform families, and access supports for children. A Speech Pathologist from Talk with Me will be in attendance to speak to you about the correlation of early language development and school success.

On Thursday, February 2, at 3:00pm, we will be hosting a Welcome to Kindergarten session for our pre-kindergarten students and their parents/guardians. This event will allow both parents and children to be in a kindergarten classroom and interact with the resources and materials used in classrooms to develop language, fine motor and communication skills.

I will send you a reminder of these kindergarten transition events in the new year, but I wanted to let you know the dates now, so that you can mark them on your calendar!

Please call us at the school if you have any questions. Take care!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with a Tuesday talk mail.

Today, students will be bringing home information about the New Brunswick Student Education and Wellness Survey. This annual provincial survey is a collaborative initiative of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Departments of Health, and the New Brunswick Health Council (NBHC).

Students in grades 4-12, and parents and guardians of students K to 5 will be asked to answer questions about wellness practices including eating, physical activity, and sleep. The survey will be conducted online. By taking the time to complete this survey, families can contribute to school improvement plans and student learning and wellness activities. The results of this survey will be available next Spring. The survey is anonymous and voluntary. No names are associated with the surveys, and all results are grouped together.

This Thursday is National Jersey Day! If your child has a jersey, and would like to wear it, many will be wearing their jerseys on Thursday.

A reminder that there is no school this Friday for students as all staff will be involved in professional learning. Our staff will be partnering with our colleagues at HES to learn more about ways we can introduce and broaden social emotional learning practices in our schools.

That’s it for today. Please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with a Tuesday talk mail.
Although we have been very spoiled with such warm temperatures, the weather today is feeling much more like a traditional November. We will continue to go outside for outdoor learning and play, so please send your child with a warm coat, hat and mittens/gloves so that they will be comfortable learning and playing in the colder temperatures.
This Friday there is no school as it is Remembrance Day. We have been teaching the children about why we have Remembrance Day, what peace means, how our Canadian military works to keep peace all over the world and how fortunate we are that we have had veterans who fought for our freedom. Many students will be visiting the cenotaph this week, and all students will be participating in our Remembrance Day Ceremony on Thursday afternoon. We are honored that we will have veterans in attendance.
That’s it for today. Please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Have a lovely day!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with a Tuesday talk mail.

Happy November! Our November newsletter and calendar are attached to this email and posted on our school website. Please take some time to see what will be happening this month.

Our Parent School Support Committee (PSCC) meets this Thursday night at the school at 6:30pm.

This Friday is Picture Day (take 2). Lifetouch will be coming to take school photos. A reminder not to dress your child in green as it will not show up on the green screen and they may look like a floating head!

That’s it for today! Enjoy this warm, lovely weather!

October 27
Thursday, Oct. 27- Picture Day postponed

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with an important update about picture day.

Lifetouch was here and all set up to take school photos today, but unfortunately, their equipment was not working properly, and they were unable to take the children’s pictures. They are dismantling and will be back next Friday, Nov. 4th to try again. We are all disappointed, but we are using this as an opportunity to model how sometimes unexpected things happen that can be disappointing, but we can move forward and still have a good day. I know many of you worked hard to have your child looking “picture ready” this morning, so I know you are also disappointed. Lifetouch apologizes to us and to each of you.

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

Thank you to all who have volunteered to be classroom librarians. We are so excited have students using our school library again!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, is the last day to order Leatherbarrow school clothing for your children. We need to get our orders in so that we can have the clothing in time for holiday gift giving.

Thursday is Picture Day! Lifetouch is coming to the school Thursday morning to take photos. Please do not dress your child in green as apparently green does not show up against the green screen backdrop. Although all students will have their photos taken, there is no obligation to purchase school photos. As soon as Lifetouch sends us the school photos, we will send them home to you. If your child is sick and cannot come to school on Thursday, or you are not happy with the photo, our photo retake day is Monday, November 28th.

Next Monday is Hallowe’en, and students are encouraged to wear crazy hair or a silly hat. We will be having a crazy hair/silly hat parade in the school for all students and staff so that all students have the opportunity to see each other. Please remember that there are no costumes worn at school.  Each class will be doing fun learning activities and recognizing Hallowe’en. Please see your own child’s class newsletter for further information as to what special activities might be happening on that day.

Thanks for listening. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at the school. Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone,

It's Lisa Jardine calling with a special Friday talk mail regarding possible changes for buses this afternoon. In keeping with our focus on Be Safe, all of our buses will be coming today at 1:30pm to conduct the District's Dinobus bus safety program. This means, each bus driver will be talking to their own students about important bus safety rules and then will be practicing a bus evacuation from their bus in our parking lot.
All students will be called to load at the same time (1:30pm) instead of our usual 2 at a time (between 1:45-2:00). Bus drivers think the training should take about 15 minutes, which should keep them pretty close to their schedules, but it may result in your child's bus leaving at a little different time than usual. It could mean your bus arrives at their afternoon drop off locations about 10 minutes earlier or 10 minutes later than usual. Hopefully, the buses will be on time, but if not, I didn't want you to miss them because they were a little earlier, or worry because they were a little later.
Thanks everyone! Have a wonderful weekend!
