The Social Studies classes of 8 Barrett, Wornell, Boudreau and Palmer began their online marketplace last week on teams.  These classes have been creating products as part of a small business, entrepreneurship program.  To view the items that these students have created for sale, visit your team site for Art.  There you will find an assignment labelled online marketplace.

You can view information about what is available and how to place an order there in your Art team page for your class.  Orders must be submitted by the end of the day today.  Please consider supporting your fellow students in these efforts, thank you.  There are many nice products available, including work by some of the students whose art you are admiring in the hallway.

When you are viewing the art in the hallway, you can look but please do not touch. Many are fragile and can be smudged or damaged quite easily. Please look, but do not touch. Thanks.

Bet you didn’t know Friday:

McDonald's once created bubblegum-flavored broccoli.

McDonald's is always introducing new items for their loyal customers. And obviously, some are more successful than others. But their bubblegum-flavored broccoli, which the fast-food chain developed in 2014 as a tastier version of the leafy green for children, was a complete failure.

Joyful June: make time to do something playful, just for the fun of it.

ANNOUNCEMENT FORM

Today, we celebrate all of you- the students of HMMS!  It has been a year like no other…..  From orange, to red, to yellow, to peach, you have shown how strong you are, how resilient you are, and how determined you are to meet the challenges we face each day.  We are proud of you and want you to know that we could not have done everything we did this year without YOU!   We recognize you today with music, with swag throughout the day, with videos (teachers please refer to your email!) and with shoutouts!

A reminder to our teachers that MADD presentations have been arranged for grade 8 students this Friday.  Mme. McCrea will be sending out the meeting links later today and a reminder to please send home the parent letters and these were sent to you last week.

Due to presentations and high school transition meetings for grade 8 students, we are postponing our Wellness Day until next Tuesday, June 15th. That means that we will have two wellness days next week, one on Tuesday, and one on Thursday.

The Citizenship Award

With the end of the school year fast approaching, it is time to think about our celebration of the contributions and achievements of our students here at Harry Miller Middle School. One of our most prestigious awards is the “Citizenship Award” which is named in honour of Harry Miller, a former Chief of Police, who was a longstanding and well-respected resident of Rothesay, known for the many acts of kindness and volunteer hours he gave to make our community what it is today. This award recognizes the outstanding contributions that a grade 8 student has made by volunteering in their school and community; showing initiative in their work, attitude, and behavior; and is well respected by both students and staff.

To be considered for the Citizenship Award you must apply to the Awards Committee in writing, indicating your involvement in volunteer work both in and out of school.  This volunteer service cannot have been undertaken as a requirement of a specific program or for which you were remunerated or paid.

We would also ask that you enclose your resume, which includes the name of three references who are aware of your volunteer service but are not family members.

Please have your application submitted to the office or by emailing Mme Bates at cindy.bates@nbed.nb.ca by this Friday, June 11th, 2021. If you require further information, please feel free to contact Mme Bates or the school office.

Attention Teachers and Students,

7 Hatfield has begun their ONLINE ENTREPRENEUR fair. Homeroom teachers, you have received a PowerPoint and online order form from Mme Hutchings. At your convenience, could you please show these to your class. Students, you may order any of the products WHILE SUPPLIES LAST by filling out the online order form at home. Teachers, please post online order form to your TEAM’S SITE. We will begin collecting funds once the online ordering has closed next week.

Thank you everyone for your support!

 Today is WACKY WEDNESDAY:
