SACKVILLE SCHOOLS SUSTAINABILITY STUDY

On Dec. 4th at the District Education Council meeting the DEC concluded a sustainability study on Marshview Middle School. The final decision was to close Marshview and ask the Minister of Education to conduct a building assessment for a mid-life upgrade on Salem Elementary and the possibility of expanding Salem to be a K to 8 school. If that is not possible/feasible the DEC would like the Minister to build a new K to 8 school to replace Salem. Marshview will remain open until a new school is constructed.

The results of the study will now be sent to the Minister who will either accept the recommendation or not. Assuming it gets accepted the project request would then go into the queue with all of the other project requests from districts across NB. Once this happens the request for the building assessment could be accepted as early as this year or in subsequent years if not approved this year. Once a project is accepted it would take several years for the project to be completed.

We will continue to keep our school commuity informed of the progress of this infrastructure planning.
