This year we had a strong focus on data and ways to use it more efficiently and effectively. We met numerous times over the school year working to determine the best data to collect in order to reach the academic goals of all our students.

This year one of our goads was to continue to formalize our ESS team meetings. As a small rural school we often have quick meetings and discussions to address the needs of our students. Formalizing these meetings allows us to have a better record of the interventions we are doing and better meet the needs of every student in our school.

Another area of focus this year was the creation of an alternate setting room. This room was set up and designed to be used not as a punishment area but instead a safe area where students could either be referred to or choose to go to. It has a variety of activities available to use so the student can still enjoy himself without feeling that he is being punished for not being on the playground. The room idea came from the identification of a number of students who consistently had difficulties on the playground. Some of these difficulties included fighting, arguing or self-control. The room worked very well and will be continued next year with a few improvements to make it even more effective.

The school wide intervention block was continued this year with a focus on Literacy outcomes. The time of the intervention block was adjusted to first thing each morning which addressed some attendance concerns that had been an issue in the past. We had a number of students make significant gains due to the dedicated time spent on specific Literacy outcomes.
