Premier Gallant's Announcement February 22, 2017

Over $1 million invested in new addition for trades at Petitcodiac Regional School

PETITCODIAC (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $1.1 million for an addition to the Petitcodiac Regional School that will be constructed to allow automotive and metal trades courses to be offered to students.

“Our 10-year education plans prioritize increasing learning in trades,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “Your government understands that in order to strengthen our economy we need to improve student access and exposure to trades. This project will allow the students of Petitcodiac Regional School to learn about the automotive and metal industries and help them develop skills they can use in the job market.”

The project will involve an addition to the existing building. The addition will house an automotive and metal trade shop. As part of the 2017-18 capital budget, $100,000 is being invested to begin planning and design for the project, which is scheduled to be completed in winter 2019. The government will invest $1 million to complete the project.

About $88 million will be invested in public schools in 2017-18.

The government’s 10-year education plans aim to improve educational outcomes and better prepare young people for the future. They set objectives in key priority areas to create lifelong learners, support educational leaders and bring stability to the system. The budget for the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development will increase by 4.9 per cent in 2017-18.

New K-8 Morning Routine at PRS

Hello parents and students of Petitcodiac Regional School.   This is a message about a new morning routine that will begin on Monday, June 2.  The reason for this change is to provide students with more time for physical activity.  Students in grades K-8 will proceed directly to the playground area in the mornings prior to classes.
If your child is in Elementary or Middle School, they will walk around back of the building upon arrival, deposit their book bags in a designated homeroom area and go play.  That means drop of students will no longer enter through the Main Entrance doors.  Parents who drop off their children are asked to continue to do so in the same drop-off area.  The busses will now be unloading further up off Corey Avenue.
The Breakfast Program will still be available to students however they will be asked to return outside once they are done eating.  On rainy days students will proceed directly inside and follow their present routine.  Extra supervision will be in place for the next three weeks as we monitor this on a trial basis planning for September.  As always, supervision does not begin at PRS until 7:50 am.
Our goal with this change is to provide students with more opportunity for physical activity.  Thank you for your assistance and enjoy your weekend!
