ACCESS TO MHS for STUDENTS

Attention Students

On Wednesday May 13th and Thursday May 14th we are going to allow access into the school, for all of our students but during a designated time only. A reminder that unless you have personal belongings at the school you should not be at the school.

BMHS has around nine hundred students and we have close to 1250. What we have discovered however is that some students left coats, bags, sweaters etc in their lockers and would like to get them. Hence, this is your opportunity.

Please read the attached memo as it lays out how things will work and it tells you what time you are to come in based on your last name. We will have staff on duty that day to help with this process.

Regards

Mr BeLong

WHEN CAN STUDENTS RETRIEVE THEIR

BELONGINGS FROM SCHOOL

Wednesday May 13th and Thursday May 14th

Purpose:  To allow students access into the school to get all personal belongings still at the school, drop off books they are not needing anymore as well as uniforms they need to pass back in and library books.

Note: This is not a social time. It will be very regimented and it’s in and out and gone. We are anticipating that most of our students have their belongings at home already given we asked them to do so on March 13th. We have heard that many simply took learning materials and left personal belongings at school, so this is THE opportunity.

Here is the procedure to follow when recovering personal belongings at school:

  • You must report to the Front Entrance (where buses drop off students) at the assigned time. Students who arrive before the scheduled time will have to wait outside.  Traffic cones and markings will be placed at the two meters to ensure respect for social distancing.
  • We ask students to arrive during the 30-minute time frame and line up on the markings. You have approx. 8 to 10 minutes to gather your belongings.  We do not want too many students in school at the same time.
  • You will exit by the “Gym Entrance” doors.
  • As you exit, you can also return your textbooks (if you do not need them for current learning plan) or library books and uniforms. Tables will be set up for this outside the main gym bathrooms.  A sanitation Station to clean your hands when exiting is in place as well.

Flow through the Building

  • To assure a good flow, the students need to walk on the right side of the hallway in and out of the building. All students will exit the building no matter what floor their locker is on by the gym entrance/ exit (closest to our newly built sports field).
  • There will be tables set up to drop off textbooks, library books and uniforms (if you play on a team.)  If your textbook is still needed for the remainder of the semester then please keep it and we will get it in the fall for grades 9-11 and for grade 12s we will get it before you can get your diploma. Another time will be communicated.
  • Textbooks should be clearly marked inside the cover with your name or a piece of masking tape on it with your name. If you somehow forget to do this, we will have masking tape and markers on hand
  • Locks are to remain on your locker locked in place and close your locker door.
  • First Floor Lockers and Homerooms

First floor students will enter the school through the main entrance (bus drop off) like all other students and exit the school by the gym entrance/exit.

Please respect social distancing of at least six feet in the stairwells as it might get slightly bottlenecked at times when students are exiting each floor.

  • Second Floor Lockers and Homerooms

Second floor students will enter the school through the main entrance (bus drop off) like all other students and exit the school by the gym entrance/exit.  To access the second floor, you will use the main staircase as you turn right from the front lobby. You will go out the stairwell closest to the sports field down to the first floor and you will then move down the hallway towards the gym entrance. Remember that all movement in the building is to keep to the right side of the hallway. Teachers / staff will be around to help with this flow if you are confused. Arrows will be marked in blue on the floor.

Please respect social distancing of at least six feet in the stairwells as it might get slightly bottlenecked at times when students are exiting each floor.

  • Third Floor Lockers and Homerooms

Third floor students will enter the school through the main entrance (bus drop off) like all other students and exit the school by the gym entrance/exit.To access the third floor, you will use the main staircase as you turn right from the front lobby. You will keep right up to the third floor. You will go out the stairwell closet to the sports field down to the first floor and you will then move down the hallway towards the gym entrance

Please respect social distancing of at least six feet in the stairwells as it might get slightly bottlenecked at times when students are exiting each floor.

  • ONCE STUDENTS LEAVE, THEY ARE TO GO DIRECTLY TO THEIR VEHICLE. THERE IS TO BE NO LOITERING TO TALK TO FRIENDS.
  • Students from the same family can come at the same time.  The family will be able to choose the time that suits them best between those assigned times.  Students should come into the school alone (unless an assistant is needed) and will be able to enter school only once.
  • It is essential to respect the time allocated in order to allow this to function properly.  We need to coordinate the flow of approx. 32 students while respecting the recommendations of the Ministries of Health and Education and Early Childhood.
  • Students will not have access to classrooms.  If you have personal belongings in a classroom, you should discuss with a teacher on duty supervising in the hall.
  • Contact your homeroom teacher if you have an art project you have to pick up and we will arrange them to be distributed at a later date. Might be next school year
  • Please bring your own bags to pick up your belongings.
  • SCHEDULE OF TIME SLOTS IS BELOW _ WE WOULD ASK AKLL STUDENTS TO RESPECT THEIR DESIGNATED TIME

IMPORTANT MEMO RE: ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Assistive technology is something that students receive from the school for their learning. It is bought by the province and distributed to students to aid them with their learning. Most students that have this technology have it because their individual learning plan requires it.

This is not people who have bought their own device to aid in the learning.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY:  If your device is working, do not bring it back to the school.

  • Should you be running into technological difficulties with your school issued device, it can be brought in and left in the designated area at the front entrance.
