Dear Parents/Guardians,

The month begins with some school spirit activities. We started the week with wearing plaid and our school colors. Today the students went swimming at the Dieppe Aquatic Centre to celebrate their healthy snack challenge. March is national nutrition month! Public Health encourages us to share meals together: it opens dialogue, connects people and helps us eat a more balanced diet. Share a meal together tonight:

Rice Bowl – Southwest Style

Ingredients: 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, 1 cup chopped vegetables (peppers, corn, tomatoes, zucchini), 1 cup chopped meat or beans, 1 cup cooked brown rice, 2 Tablespoons salsa, shredded cheese or low-fat sour cream

1.       In a medium skillet, heat oil over medium high heat (350 degrees in an electric skillet).  Add vegetables and cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender-crisp.

2.       Add cooked meat or beans and cooked rice to skillet and heat through.

3.       Divide rice mixture into bowls. Top with salsa, cheese or sour cream and serve warm.  Enjoy!

Thursday we are wearing “Camo” and going skating (Grades K-2 from 1pm-1:45pm and Grades 3-5 from 2pm-3pm) Anyone able to help at the rink is welcome! The week ends by celebrating Team Canada…. Wear red and white!!

A Home and School fundraising activity will also take place in March. Again this year, there will be a 10 day reading challenge for students. Students are invited to get sponsors through family and friends.  More details will be sent by the Home & School soon.

Finally even with some nice days, students still need mittens, hats and snow pants for playing outdoors. Please be sure students come prepared for outdoor play.  Thank you.

Have a safe and enjoyable March Break!
