Dear Parents/Guardians,

This week we are welcoming Mrs. Maura McSheffery to HES.  She is replacing Mrs. Boutilier (Mrs. B) who has retired.  Mrs. McSheffery is coming from Lou MacNarin School with many years of experience. We look forward to working with her.

Winter is here and with it comes the potential for school closures. We have already seen several.  I’d like to take this opportunity to review information related to school closures. Decisions related to weather are made at approximately 6am. In the event of a closure, information regarding district or regional school closures, and late or cancelled busses, is available though the SNOWLINE 856-SNOW (7669), Twitter (# ASDEALERTS), email subscription (see link for directions), and the district website ( www.asdeast.nbed.ca).Infomraiton). Information is also shared with local radio stations.  Should HES close after students arrive at school, a message is sent to parents with the reason and the closure time. Teachers will also make calls to parents to ensure they are aware and to confirm emergency plans.  Please wait for a call and do not call the school as this adds unnecessary phone use and uses personnel time that is needed for other responsibilities. Also be sure your contact information is always up to date. More information and directions to sign up for email alerts can be found on the district website under Student Wellness (Storm Closures)  Storm Closure | Anglophone East School District (nbed.ca).

I would like to also remind you that The Government of New Brunswick has one more consultation session on the NB Innovative Immersion proposal framework. This is a virtual session, Thursday, Feb 2. The province is also accepting feedback through a survey and emails at consultation.eecd.edpe@gnb.ca until February 3rd.  A final decision on the proposed framework will be released after consultations are completed. Go to the following link for more information Get involved (snb.ca)

(This newsletter is also posted on the HES website for link access.)

Allergy Alert – Please remember, HES is a nut free school as we have some students with severe allergies to nuts.  Thank you for helping ensure our students are safe by not sending food with nut products.
