SIP Goal

School-Wide Goal: To foster a collaborative culture using a PLC model (Professional Learning Community) that supports learning of all members of our school community.

Principal’s Summary: We have met the overall SIP goal for this year as teams are meeting regularly as a PLC, exploring supports for both behaviour and academic student needs. K-8 teams worked in flexible groupings in the following areas: numeracy, science, English and fine motor skills.

K-2 team: Numeracy, Science, Literacy in consultation with the literacy lead, Fine motor skills in consultation with the Occupational Therapist.

3-4 team: Numeracy and Literacy in consultation with the literacy lead

5-8 team: Numeracy in consultation with Numeracy lead

6-8 team: Literacy in consultation with the literacy lead

By enhancing our PLC practices, the data indicates increased achievement for students and has provided direction for next steps and actions that contributed to our school’s professional learning plan for the next year.

PLWEP Goal

School- Wide Goal : Social and physical Environment. The school appropriately addresses potential safety concerns related to students’ online social exchanges and relationships.

Principal’s Summary: We have met the PLWEP goal that we set for ourselves as a school in September. We will continue to monitor our progress with this goal based on observations conversations with students and parents/guardians, as well as products. Lessons on internet safety and healthy relationships will continue to be part of our curriculum (Health, Personal Development and Guidance). The kids in the know personal Safety program was helpful in delivering engaging lessons, as were the UNB student nurses with our Middle School students. Parents/Guardians were provided many helpful tips and resources via school connects messages throughout the school year.

Areas of Focus Identified by School Review

There were two major areas of focus that were identified for Hillcrest in 2012. 1) The establishment of a core leadership team and 2) providing additional enrichment opportunities.

Our core leadership team included regular ESS meetings for individual referrals as well as team and school-wide initiatives for student learning. This year, we also added regular CORE leadership meetings.

As per our direction noted in 2016 report, as a school we have increased our use of flexible groupings to meet the need of individual learners and PLC teams have explored various types of data collection methods and have begun to use data walls. Next year, we will continue to focus on our flexible groupings, and data walls. We will target our system practices by better developing class profiles. We will be embedding the Teaching Process Map in the school ESS team Meetings (Core, Individual Referrals, and School Improvement Planning).
Enrichment opportunities were provided to individuals and flexible groups in the form of stretch learning. Whole school enrichment opportunities were experienced through guest speakers and field trips.
