Today is Tuesday, October 20th and this is Mrs. Godfrey with a few messages from Caledonia Regional.

Congratulations to Caledonia students who raised $289.65 for the Terry Fox Foundation this fall.  This money has been donated to the Foundation on behalf of Caledonia.

Each November, our Grade 9 students participate in “Take Your Kids to Work Day.”  This year, the event will be held virtually.  The date of the virtual tour is Wednesday, November 4th.  Grade 9 students are encouraged to join the tour virtually and participate in the organized activities.  The link to the tour has been shared with all Grade 9 students on their English Language Arts TEAMs site.

School Pictures have gone home with students in Grades 6 through 12 this week.  We ask that you place all orders online at mylifetouch.ca.  All the information is inside the package going home.   If you are unable to place your order online, please connect with the Admin Assistant at the school – sometime before November 2nd - and she will communicate an alternate plan to online ordering.

A reminder that vaccinations are currently scheduled for Grade 7 and Grade 9 students on November 13th and November 16th.  Please return forms to homeroom teachers.  Public Health will be on site to administer the vaccination.

Graduation Pictures have been tentatively re-booked for November 17th and November 18th

A reminder that our cafeteria service is available.  There are great food options available for purchase on site.  Cafeteria services have been closed in some schools this fall due to lack of sales and we would not want to see that happen to our school cafeteria.

A final reminder that the Return to School Document is constantly being updated on the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development site. Most recent changes include:

·        Reference to the online “Get Tested” tool.

·        Appendix D2 – Sanitization of a school bus during a pandemic.

·        Appendix I – Community use of schools is currently on hold and will be reviewed in January 2021.

·        Appendix K – Outbreak Management

We have heard from Dr. Jennifer Russell that our zone is on the trajectory to return to YELLOW – perhaps later this week.  This is very positive news, and that announcement would be made officially by Public Health.  The switch to ORANGE has been challenging on families, communities, and schools.  Across Canada, we are seeing an increase number of cases which could indicate that returning to ORANGE may be a possibility for us at some point.

For now, I echo the message of Public Health – It is important that we each remain vigilant.  Wearing masks is one step we can take – Hand washing and Physical Distancing are two other important steps.   Each student at this school – and each home they represent – should be very proud of the work they are doing every day to keep schools open.  Students – I am very proud of each of you.  Everyone at Caledonia is doing their part to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Please continue to refer to our Operational Plan for updates.

Thank you very much for listening.
