Letter from Mrs. Godfrey - Thursday, January 28, 2021

Thursday, January 28, 2021

Good morning from Caledonia Regional High School

There has been much anxiety these past few weeks - first with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in our school on Sunday, January 17th and later that week with the province’s communication of the RED phase of COVID-19 recovery.  School leaders and staff have discussed and asked questions to better understand the guidelines and expectations for schools moving forward in the RED phase.

Should your child be feeling overwhelmed, please reach out to Ms. Lean – our Guidance Counselor - or myself by phone or email.  There are also contact numbers and emails on the Caledonia website for additional support.

I know that some parents are concerned about sending students back to school.  Protocols are being followed at the school to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.  Added measures include active staff screening protocols and directives for both staff and students to remain home with ONE symptom during the RED phase of recovery.

Tomorrow, Friday, January 29th, we will welcome Caledonia students back to the building.

Friday is the final day of Semester 1 for high school students.  Some high school students can put the finishing touches on semester 1 through their evidence of learning on TEAMS following the same check in schedule as they have been following the past two weeks.  Some high school students will need to take this final opportunity tomorrow to meet with their subject teachers face to face.  High School teachers will have these discussions with students and families throughout the day today.

Middle School teachers are looking forward to seeing their students in class tomorrow.

Parents are reminded to report their child’s absence through School Messenger when they are not able to attend school.  Distance Learning plans will continue to be in place for students:

1.    Who are immunocompromised - or live with someone who is - and have submitted a medical note to the school from their primary health care provider.

2.      Who have been instructed by Public Health to self-isolate.

Monday and Tuesday, February 1 and 2, there is no school for High School students as teachers of those subject areas prepare for second semester courses.  These are designated as High School Turnaround Days.  The school is open for Middle School students on these 2 days.  Semester 2 begins for High School on Wednesday, February 3 and it will be a Track A day.

For the rest of January and all of February, there will be no cafeteria service available at Caledonia.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we all continue to work through this together while making the best decisions possible to support our students.  Thank you for your commitment to our Learning at a Distance Plan these last few weeks.
