A coalition of First Nations Education Champions will be
meeting in October to learn more about how to incorporate the First Nations
cultural awareness and history into our schools and classrooms. This passionate group of educators will take the ‘lead’ as a champion and liaison
for their respective schools and will work alongside lead students and community members. With this being ‘Mik’maq History Month’, the
timing of our first Sharing Circle(s) is perfect!
Some teachers and students headed to the ‘Sisters in Spirit’
vigil held at Mount A on October 4 to commemorate the Missing and Murdered
Indigenous Women and Girls. Many others will be attending the Powwows at
Kouchibouguac (October 6th) or Mount Allison (October 18th).
In fact, some schools are also sending students to the Mount Allison Powwow –
ALL are welcome!
The coalition is looking to put together a list of contacts
who may be willing to volunteer as guest speakers in schools. If you know of
anyone, please have them contact Tracy Landry.
If you are interested in contacting the First Nations
Education Coordinator – feel free to reach out to Tracy Landry at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 856-2202.
