I hope that everyone was able to have a restful few weeks off. As we start the new year, we are gearing up for basketball tryouts and team selections. In order to tryout for basketball, students will need to preregister. No one is permitted to show up without preregistering. Sorry for the information overload, but it's important that everyone gets this info. We have 4 different levels for our students to play.
They are as follows:
Varsity: This is our most competitive team and is open to students in grades 7 & 8.
Junior Varsity: This is also a competitive team and is open for students in grades 6 & 7.
Tier 2: This team is open to students in grades 7 & 8 and will play tier 2 teams from local schools.
Grade 6 Dev: This team is only open to students in grade 6 and is meant as a great introduction to the game.
It is suggested that students in grade 8 tryout for varsity first and if they don’t make varsity, they then try out for tier 2. Students in grade 7 should try out for Varsity, then JV, then tier 2. Students in grade 6 should try out for JV and then Grade 6 Dev. Unfortunately, not everyone that tries out for a team will make a team. We are limited in gym time and space.
With that being said, we will start our tryouts with our Varsity teams. The other teams will have to wait until these teams are selected. Following Varsity Tryouts, we will do sign ups for JV tryouts, then Tier 2 and Grade 6’s will follow. Tryouts times can be found on the school’s athletic calendar (https://email@example.com&ctz=America/Halifax)
Please use this link to fill in the information for Varsity Tryouts (grade 7 & 8). Please communicate with your child before you sign them up, to prevent the same name being signed up several times. Students must be masked when not on the floor and they must come to the gym ready to go. Changing rooms will be locked, so if they need to get changed, they can use the washrooms by the gym door entrance. In order to provide a safe playing surface for our students, students must bring a set of indoor sneakers with them and put them on before going onto the gym floor. Their outdoor shoes can be left in the gym hallway.
